So I reload .223, .45, and 9mm. Handload .308 and .338 LM. I have a good base knowledge of loading but I don't know everything. My buddy shoots 30-06 and brought over dies, brass, powder, primers and bullets. He wants me to help him work up a load. He doesn't feel the need to shoot past 700-800 yds. The powder is IMR 4007 SSC and the bullets are 165gr nosler spitzer ballistic tips, which I have no experience with either and was wondering where a good starting charge would be? Thanks for the help.

If it were me, Id start with 50grs RE15, but since you're using 4007SSC Id go with 54.5grs and go up in increments of .5grs up to 55.5grs.
Hogwash! 3 shot groups with what I mentioned before this reply, find your best group/load combo and load 9 more of that load for verifying, then shoot three 3 shot groups to make sure it's all good.
Is 54.5grs a typo?? I wouldn't ever start that close to the listed maximum in the book.
And what happens if none of those make acceptable groups? That would be something I would do after running a ladder test and finding what node I wanted to run but not before.
