Load up- or down?

Hey guys
I've been trying a few loads in my DPMS 308 and I curious as to were to go. I started with some 155 A-max and at 100 yards five shots touch but string upwards like the barrels just getting hot. I have the factory 24 inch heavy stainless barrel cut to 20 inches. I have shot factory Fed GMM 168's sub moa and I would like to do the same with my loads. I also hand loaded some 168 SMK's that where better but still strung upward. So my question is should I try a lighter load?

Here's what I'm working with-
Hornady match brass
Reloader 15
CCI BR2's
Hornady 155 A-max
Sierra 168 SMK

Thanks

Re: Load up- or down?

What change weight are you using? I have had great results with 45.4 of RL-15 behind 155 smk's in the same gun you have with the 24". I don't have the vertical stringing issue though.

Re: Load up- or down?

The 155's were loaded with 47.0 grains and the 168's were loaded with 44.0 grains. Sounds like I should take it down a notch. I know better anyway I should have started lower and went up. I'll try some lighter loads. Thanks

Wiht RL-15 you are supposed to find the optimal charge weight just a little lower on the scale. Run a spread from 46.5 to 47.0 in 0.1 gr increments. You should find a 0.25 gr window appropriate for your gun and your OAL.

Re: Load up- or down?

I too have a DMPS upper that was a 24" bull barrel that has been cut down to 20" and fitted with a YGM FH with QD for a Phantom suppressor that I shoot it through. I'm going to start a thread shortly with what I'm going with so you may want to have a look as I update it with results. I will post back a link when I'm finished.
