Loctite sunshade removal

I recently bought a scope off a buddy. I found out that the sunshade has been locktited on. I’ve tried to twist it off but can’t. Any ideas how to remove it without damaging the scope? Thanks is advance!

What type of loctite did he use? You can try a heat gun.

You could try to dissolve it with Acetone. A little heat might help too.

Sometimes you can use a solvent like brake cleaner but I don’t know that I would want that near the lens.

Don’t use acetone. I’d rather have a permanent sunshade than to fuck up the lens coating.

Not suggesting you drop the entire scope in a bucket of acetone just try to work some into the thread area. You were suggesting brake cleaner, in a spray can I assume. ???

Wasn’t trying to offend you man. I also said I don’t think I’d want that near the lens . Just mentioned that was typically a way to break red loctite. Not my scope he can follow your advice if he wants.

Anyway, OP try some gentle heat as hopefully he didn’t douse it in loctite and it may just need a nudge.

This would seem like a reasonable first step. The least aggressive methods first.

Put wide rubber bands around the sunshade and ocular of the tube.

Cover as much area as you can with rubber.

It will increase your purchase as you use your hands to twist it free.
