Long Action 7WSM or RSAUM Repeater

Hi guys... I am considering jumping on the 7MM band wagon and getting either a 7MMX300WSM, a 7MM WSM or a 7MM RSAUM.

I will shoot 180 to 200gr bullets and would like to use a long action repeater.

What mag system would work.. any of the RUM based mags?? Any feeding issues that need to be addressed??

I think this will be my first Remington based project.. I have used Savages up until now simply for ease of barrel swapping and such..

Any thoughts or advice??

For long action DBM.

What will you use the rifle for?

Do you want a flush mounted mag or do you want higher mag capacity with a AICS style mag?

I planning on running AICS mag I would run Surgeon DBM

If a sleeker look for hunting with lower mag capacity I would run HS Precision DBM

Whichever 7 mag you go with you will be happy.

APA and LA precision prefer to build 7 WSMs on long actions

both build great rifles. Give Robert Gradous a call as well

If you run a short action GAP has a great reamer and you could run Seekins DBM. It has a long oal

I have a Remmy Long action running a 7/300 wsm. I originally wanted a 7 rsaum but picked this rifle as a turn key package.

Personally I like the longer action as it lets me seat the longer bullets out as far as I want with the 7/300 wsm. But a lot of guys on here are running very accurate short action rifles.

It originally had an HS stock with Kwik Clip conversion using there 300 win magazines. Feeding from these mags were good and cycled well. The rifle is now at a friends getting bedded and I have a Hooper system on the way with the AI 300 win magazines. So we will see how those work.

Really comes down to your personal preference.

Are you using a straight LA 700 or one with a magnum bolt face? Have you just considered a straight up .284?

I considered a straight 284 esp since I can simply neck up Lapua brass.. A huge bonus as far as I am concerned.. But talking to my buddy who is doing the building we have decided on one of the short mags.. Neither of us have done one and we are kind of itching to try one..

I guess a 300 win mag magazine would work.. for some reason I had it in my head I was going to have to run a RUM based mag..

This is a Tactical style competition/steel ringer rifle..

A 300 WSM necked down to 7MM. It had a little less capacity than a 7WSM but a longer neck.

That could be helpful for me. I am thinking of converting a 270 WSM to 7mm WSM, but wanted to re-use my 270 WSM brass.

7/270 WSM is dimensionally identical to the 7/300 WSM.

I have a 7/300 simply because I bought a bunch of 300 WSM brass, it shoots very well. Long action, mag bolt face, 27" tube 9tw and a 20 MOA base with a Vortex Razor on top. I should be able to dial all the way to 2000yd by running the 180 class bullets.

Is this a single shot or Mag??? if a mag which bottom metal and mag are you running??

I am interested in the 300WSM magazine also.

I have had a custom rifle built in 300WSM using Badger bottom metal. Buit on long action BAT. On the L/A AI mag the lips needed modifying for it to work, but once right worked well.

Now, I want to pursue this path again, but this time a 7mm/300WSM, using a 1086 Surgeon L/A and I want to use a floor plate and internal box mag.

So, the big question I have is if I use a L/A, can I get the 7mm/300WSM to feed from the internal box if using something like a 300WM internal box setup?

It's running cheapie KwikKlip bottom metal from Cabelas. It feeds out of the magazine just dandy after some bending to the lips was done.

To use a WSM case in AI magazines you want to use the 338 Lapua magazines, not the 300 WM versions.

I have both the 4 shot and 10 shot magazine, though with the WSM they're 3/7 respectively.

I'm running my straight 7WSM out of .308 AI Mags, and they run 3 and 7, just like Bohem said. Yep the lips got a little tweak, and smooth as silk.

Granted the pill is way back in the case. But you can do it and still see 2,800+ from a 26" tube with the Berger 180s.
