Good afternoon all. I’d like to hear from those familiar with switch barrel setups on a long action that have/use barrels chambered for short action cartridges (as in have both a 338lm or 300wm and a 308 or 6.5cm).
Any difficulty with feeding/clambering the short action cartridges via the long action. Also interested in experience with 223 or 5.56 feeding/clambering in a long action. Does anyone use specific magazines for this task?

I have HS Precision Tactical Take down in 308 and 300 Mag and have no feeding issues using long action mags. The other setup would be a DTA Arms in any caliber you want with no issues. Their are several others setup out their which one are looking into?

Doesn't cadex chassis allow both long and short action mags to be used similar to how an Axmc works? That's the route I would go if I wanted to try and run a setup like that. I know a chassis isn't for everyone but with all the adjustments I think a person could get it fitted for the ans get used to it.

Can you do that with the chassis or is that only the kraken? Very interested in finding out.

I don't have time to look right now but I believe if you look at their chassis info that you can do that with one of their chassis. Someone else posted it a while back and I remember seeing something about magazine adapters. It was in a previous thread on here.

I looked a little on break and it's looking like they mean from non cip to cip length mags. It might be worth emailing them since it's probably the same system as their switch barrel setup.

only ones I have found that have adapter to go from SA to LA to CIP are the Cadex and Eliseo RTM.

KRG makes insert to go from CIP to LA for the Whiskey 3.

Tubb's new rifle is configurable also, but uses proprietary magazines. and no 223 option for bolt I am aware of.

probably missing a few.

I feel like I’ve read about people using a LA build for SA cartridges in several other posts and assumed these folks weren’t using specific proprietary tech but just feeding out of LA mags.
I’ll see if I can surf some of those old posts where folks have talked about switch barrel setups that are running 223/6.5/300wm/etc (he gamut) and tag them to this thread.

I have done it before using LA magazines with SA cartridges, but had issues feeding smaller rds. 22-250 wouldn't work, sits to far back in mag. never bothered with 223 or modifying the mag. thinking to myself, modding magazine, or spacer for mag housing would probably work best. maybe one of the smiths here would take on the project for a nominal fee. like M5 DBM adapter to fit SA magazines

interested to see what you come up with.

Didn’t badger used to make a dbm for the long action M24 that worked for short action mags? I’ve pondered this too and thought different bottom metals would be the answer.
