So I want to know what people are considering long range for a 22lr and what size targets they are shooting at these distances?
My home range goes out a bit past 100yds and a 2”by2” steel plate seems a decent size for that range (maybe 110yds). Not so easy that it’s a given, not so hard that you get frustrated..
Just found a place nearby that I should be able to stretch it out a bit.. haven’t measured it but I’m guessing maybe 400yds? So if was to put a target at around 300, 350, and 400yds what would be a good size?
How far are you guys shooting and at what size targets are your shooting at?
Thanks, Justin

Thanks Littlepod, thats exactly the kind of info I was looking for..
68hoyt, I shoot a tikka, I whish I could have gotten that Winchester, and if I had seen it before I ordered the Tikka I just might have.. was a great looking old gun.. someone from the hide bought it though so it’s in good hands..

100 yards, 2" plate
200 yards, 6" plate
300 yards, 12" plate
400 yards, 20" plate

This will help you spot misses. If you're talking about a tuned match rifle with ammo, like say a Vudoo with Center-X that's been mated...
1" at 100
3" at 200
6" at 300
12" at 400

I have 200yds from my house to my woods, with a pit at 50yds, 180yds, and 200yds. At my 180 I like to keep a 12x12 and a 66% IPSC target. On off days or windy days I like to use those to see where I’m actually hitting. Then I have an 8x6” and a 3” circle. I really like that Setup.

If I’m missing on the 8x6 I just move to the IPSC and it usually tells me what I’m doing wrong. I’d love to get a full size IPSC as well..

if it helps, for reference, my 3” target at 180-200yds is tough. My gun is plenty accurate but I’m pretty sure it’s maxing out my ammo’s consistency. I use CCI clean 22 and my gun loves it, but it does start to open up more around 200.

I have successfully made multiple hits at 225 and 250 on 6-8” plates with this combo though.

Yep it really just depends on what rifle/ammo you have set up. For my Tikka T1X with the IBI Win52D, I shot 10 shot groups with a 3" vertical spread and a 1.5" horizontal spread. Went 10 for 10 on 3" steel. With SK Standard Plus, probably I hit usually 8-9 out of 10.

With my Tikka T1X Factory Barrel, since it shoots about 45fps slower, definitely has a good deal more drop/spread at 200 yards. Usually around 4-6" groups.

Last time me and my son went to the public range, we were shooting at 8” round targets.. once I had the scope dialed for drop it was pretty easy to hit.. didn’t try for groups though, just a friendly bet on who got a bullseye first.

Last week my cousin and I headed out to the ranch with 22s. These aren't precision 22s either. Mine is a model marlin 60 and his is a lever action and idk it's make. Either way, hitting a 12x12 plate @ 200 was stupid easy. We also didn't have fancy scopes with LR suited reticles. We just held where we figured, and all shots became hits.

We have done the same @300 yards but with a savage bull barrel 17HMR.

I think 12x12 was too big for the 22 @ 200 But it would probably make more sense shooting at it from 300.
