This is a difficult one as my research on this shows numbers vary wildly depending on which comparator someone is using. I'm using 139 scenars which with my 6.5 comparator measure base to ogive of .717 I'm looking for a match bullet 6.5 that has a longer base to ogive than this as I want to tinker a bit and take advantage of my long freebore. Can anyone who has both 139 scenars and 147eld measure the base to ogive of both to see if the 147 eld is longer or if someone with a correct 6.5 comparator take a measurement of 147eld to see how long they are would be much appreciated. I single load with a .250 freebore now I realise bullets can jump a long way and still be accurate as the 139 scenars are I'm more interested in taking advantage of the avail room I have that others cant due to short freebores. My 139 scenars seated 10 thou off lands only have around roughly .160 bearing surface in the neck. Would like to see If the 147ELD will get more bearing surface in the neck seated at same depth.

thanks

I looked back to 2009 at 139 lengths. Seems they were all around .730-.735. My current batch of 147’s measure .735. Same comparator for all measurements.

Thanks mate I had a feeling the 139 scenars were one of the longest base to ogive out there. Maybe these new 150 sierras might be longer.

padom are you talking about oal or base to ogive? berger lists the 140 hybrids as .704 base to ogive.

Sorry yea I was. I just measured a bunch and the 139 Lapua has the longest bullet base to ogive of all. Here's the numbers I got from a few I measured

123 Lapua - 0.745
139 Lapua - 0.806
140 Hybrid - 0.730
140 ELDM - 0.760
147 ELDM - 0.798
130 GT - 0.769

Thanks heaps for that mate I will stick with the 139 scenars for now.

I think most of the new bullets, including the new 150 SMKs are all "nose". there is a little more bearing surface, but not as much for as long as the bullet is

I would look at bullets that like to jump. the 140 elds do ok with that as to the 140 hybrids. I would stay away from the vlds though
