I am looking for a knife but can't find one. Can anyone help me with a factory made knife or will I have to go custom? Here is what I am looking for: drop point 5" blade made of D2 steel and 3/16" thick. I also want a sheath that is molle compatable with a plastic insert.

Looks like it will have to be a custom. I was pm about TOPS knives as well. It seems like 1095 is the steel of choice in the blade length I am looking for but I am set on D2 or possibly 154cm since most of my time is spent in wet conditions and I think it will rust a little less.

For a ready made at a reasonable price, Benchmade makes a 5" fixed blades in D2, 154cm, and also in S30V which is another good choice for corrison resistance and it takes a nice edge also. They have a "search wizard" which allows you to pick the characteristics to search for such a steel type, fixed or folder, and so on. Good luck.

The SOG website doesn't state the thickness of the blade? It is not D2 and a little shy of 5" blade. I will have to keep looking. A little longer than 5" is ok but I don't want to go shorter.

You might also consider 154CM steel, it's so close to D2 that heat treat variances are probably a bigger factor than the steel choice between the two. If you are concerned about rust/corrosion 154cm is the choice between the two. Little harder to sharpen than D2, and pending on heat treat D2 might hold an edge slightly longer.

As for a custom Alan Folts is very good with working with a customer as far as a collaboration/back-and-forth on what you want and what he designs/makes. He's done a couple designs I did awhile ago that turned out very well and were reasonably priced for the work. I doubt Alan would have an issue doing either steel for ya.
