Evening gents.

I've used a Blackhawk SERPA (Yes, I've read the anti-Blackhawk SERPA threads and have the "heads up". Thanks) for the last few years for off-duty carry with an issue Glock 22. M-3 light was carried on the gun for duty.

Agency just issued M&P .40 and TLR1 light.

I've found the Comp-Tac and Blade-Tech holsters which can hold a pistol with a light attached.

Anyone know of any others?

Appreciate any help.

I carry my M&P with a X300 in a Raven Holster and have been happy with it. The Cloak Holster is basically the same with a little shorter wait time. I got one for my compact from RKBA Holsters who is a Hide Member and it has been a great holster but the last time I spoke to him he is not makeing any for weapon mounted lights yet.

raven concealment and armordillo both do custom kydex holsters... be prepared to wait.

there is an in depth thread on another board that details exactly how to make any type of holster, pm me if interested

I got a Raven Phantom for my Glock 23 back when they were new and before the long wait times. I carry OWB and love the Phantom. I would try PSholsters as they are very highly regarded with less waiting time. Worth a shot.

Ordered a raven in 6/11 still waiting I expect it sometime in October. Until then I suffer with a comptac Spartan, If I had realized the wait was going to be so long I would have bought a Cross Breed and left the light of for now.

I have a Raven Concealment holster. They are very nice the only down side is waiting months for your order. Also you have to specify the light you plan on mounting on your gun (if you plan on going that route). I also have a Serpa and if I had to pick just one it would be the Serpa.

Re: Looking for a kydex holster for an M&P .40

John, I purchased an M&P40 at the beginning of this week, and owned a P226 in .40 before that. For the P226 a while back, I ordered online a Safariland ALS holster that held the pistol + TLR-1 weapon light. It worked pretty well for the Sig (excellent fit with TLR-1 equipped, but loose without), but absolutely perfectly for the M&P40 both with and without TLR-1 mounted.

The store that I bought the M&P40 (standard model) at the beginning of the week had Safariland ALS holsters for the M&P both with and without a weapon-light. I bought two 6378's - one was just for the pistol, and the other will house the pistol with TLR-1, same setup you have. They both came equipped with paddles already on the holster, but also had belt loops inside that could replace the paddle.

It is a perfect setup, at least for me. I was getting it all set up last night - put the belt loops on the pistol+light holster and mount that on the warbelt, but keep the paddle on the pistol holster to use at pistol-only matches. The holster that holds both the pistol + TLR-1 holds onto the gun by itself as well as it does when the gun is equipped with the light. The P226 version I had did not do this nearly as well. But the M&P version, even w/out the light mounted, is rock solid.

If you wanted the option to use the holster both with and without the light, and are okay with the ALS retention device (extremely popular as of late and, in my and many others' opinions, superior to the retention system used on the SERPA holsters in ease-of-use, ability to securely hold the pistol, and reliability), then I'd go with the Safariland 6378, hands down.

If you want the holster part number and all of that, let me know and I can get that to you once I get home this evening.

Re: Looking for a kydex holster for an M&P .40

Raven's are nice. However, there are all kinds of Raven inspired holsters out their for less money and alot less wait time. I am actually in process of ordering a holster from a home maker on who posts on glock talk.

If this is going to be a dedicated OWB holster, (which I recommend if it will have a light) I would get 0 cant and no extended body shield.

Re: Looking for a kydex holster for an M&P .40

I carry a M&P9 with a TLR1s. I have a Kaluban Cloak with no cant and NTAC with cant. The NTAC is a thinner kydex and I prefer it for IWB carry. The Kaluban is a quality holster, but I would rather it was canted. Both are nice holsters with good retention and a positive "click" upon holstering. I don't think you would be disappointed with either.

Raven, I have had mine for a year and a half, 2 glock holsters an XD holster and an M&P holster all with insight tech lights.

Re: Looking for a kydex holster for an M&P .40

After reviewing all your suggestions I went with the one made by twadsw01. The Safariland 6378 ALS security device matches the duty holster issued by the agency.

It is a big change from the Serpa when it comes to weight and bulk. Of course, the Serpa didn't allow for light attachment.

Weight of the non-light carrying Glock G-22 (fully loaded with Speer 165 Gold Dots)/Serpa combination is 39 ounces (2 pounds/7 oz).

The S&W M&P .40 (same load)/ Safariland is 47 ounces (3 pounds/3 oz) Weight increases 8 oz. Part of that is the light.

Change in bulk (at least to my perception)is huge. Kinda like when I carried a city issued S&W M-15 on duty and a 4" M-29 off-duty back in the '70s. Hey, I was young and studly. Shot 300 rounds a week, cranked out on my RCBS single stage old school press!

Will continue doing carry with it to see if concealment is an issue. Of course Wyoming is an Open Carry state and even allows concealed carry w/o a Concealed Firearm Permit (For qualified legal residents, in-state only. If WY residents want to carry out-of-state and desire reciprocity, they get a CFP)

I did notice that the Serpa has a rigid belt attachment interface. The Safariland is flexible. Not so sure about it. Time will tell how well it holds up.

For deep concealment I'd switch to an IWB holster, probably w/o the light. Used to carry a Series 70 Colt Government in a Bianchi #3 Pistol Pocket IWB under my Levi's jacket. Topped with a Watson's .45 Shop Berryville AR ball cap. How's that for low profile?!
