Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has and is willing to share loading data for the 300 whisper/300 fireball/300-221?

Sierra SMK are getting way too expensive for plinking so I was looking for an alternative subsonic load using 147gr or 175gr heads and Vihta Vuori N110 powder?

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Thanks guys

miko

Re: Looking for subsonic loading data for 300 whisper

Go to your browser. Type in G O O G L E. Now type in 3 0 0 W H I S P E R L O A D S you also want to type in 3 0 0 F I R E B A L L
You will find at least 2 websites probably 3 and some links that will ultimately lead to more data.
Edit: I am tired and tend to be cranky when I am so bear with me. Seriously have you searched for this information? If you can't find it I will dig through my stack of targets and data in my loading room and see what I come up with after I get home this morning.

armorpl8chikn,

Thanks, yes i have but never with that specific bullet or powder.

already have sierra's manual but when you look at the data for the 147gr heads they're supersonic.

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Amazing how much a dickhead will type a stupid rant instead of actually helping you out.

Anyway, here are a couple of subsonic loads for 175 SMKs (1:8 bolt gun)

9.3 gr. VV N110

7.6 gr. Lil Gun.

My favorite "cheap" load:

8.0 gr Lil Gun, Hornady 208 A-Max

My favorite "expensive" load

8.4 gr Lil Gun, 240 SMK

Out of all powders I've tried (about 9 IIRC), Lil gun is the most versatile, and it's cheap. Plus, it meters well.

Re: Looking for subsonic loading data for 300 whisper

If you have a gas gun you may have trouble getting light projectile subs to function depending on your guns gas system.
Wideners has great deals on Mil-spec bullets in the weight range you desire much cheaper than Sierras.
I had problems with N110 in both my AR Whisper variants. One was carbine length system and one was pistol length. I have no data in my notes under 190gr for subs, I thought I did but it was all supers in 168 and below. My best load for the 190 was 8.4gr ww296.
I would try H110/ww296 and start at 10gr and work my way down in .2gr increments for the 175gr bullet. Those two powders are the same stuff. For the 147 start at minimum load for the powder you want to use and work your way down. Stay away from any of the flake powders when you do this. There are some Blue Dot loads on the net , I would avoid those at all costs.

That's why I opted for AMAX's from the start. 28c versus 60c per bullet makes a big difference in cost. I might try out Sierra 220gr Prohunter for hog hunting.

Re: Looking for subsonic loading data for 300 whisper

.300/221 WTF ever caliber
AR Platform, Pistol length gas. 16" bbl.
220 SMK
LC cases
8.2gr VV N110 = 995fps. tested from 35-100*F. Not temp sensitive. Can't remember the SD/ES numbers but they were good.

Consistently under an inch from 25 to about 120 yards with an Aimpoint COMP ML3 no magnification (1x). Starts to drop fast after that. Should probably get a 1-4 scope with QD to test with, but it works fine as is.

Carefully work DOWN to this load. SS is a different game you don't want a secondary detonation by going too low on powder charges. I'd recommend starting a grain above this in a semi auto, pistol gas.

Re: Looking for subsonic loading data for 300 whisper

Thanks alot guys.

yea, secondary detonation is always at the back of my mind.

Any recipe for the 147gr heads using VV N110?

I heard some were using VV N320 pistol powders for subsonic loads. any inputs?
