Hey ya'll im looking to build my first long gun here. I am no new guy when it comes to guns tho. I grew Up shooting everything from air rifle, .22 rim standing comps, to hi power with my father. Mostly with AR15's and M14's. Even more with the army. I have been a SDM in my plt for 2 deployments now with a m14 EBR kit. Witch i have taken and "hit" a 1,200 meter shot with I have a a number of AR's .556, A 6.8, 6.5 and .308. Im looking to build my first bolt gun. My goal is a 1,000 or greater meter gun with a some what decent group. Im looking into a alot of rem 700's. I have a About a $$$$ 1,500 price range could add if need be. i just need some advice on what gun and or scope. What are your guys thought about a budget build gun. I dont not have a preference on the caliber now. i would most likely do my own reloading. And i am really not to keen on spending 5 dollars a round lol. I have mostly been searching .308's. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am raping up my Deployment in the sand land as we speek. should be home in a month or 2. Thanks for the help!

Save your money, you "have a a number of AR's .556, A 6.8, 6.5 and .308" and for $1,500 you will do no better than to practice, practice, practice, practice.

$1,500 will not buy you a scope that would sit on top of anything that would warrant the effort of custom "building" a new rig better than that which you have.

i can always go over 1500 that was just a staring point. my ar's are all shorter barrel the longest one begin 18inch. soo as for long range out them.. its just not what im looking for. i have looked at the rem 700 AAC-SD i will also check out the scope you mentioned thanks!

I agree, get a SuperSniper scope from swfa.com (anywhere from 10x to 16x, fixed power) and put it on top of a Remington 700 SPS Tactical or SPS Varmint in 308. You should be able to do this (with rings, base & some type of bipod) for about $1100-$1200... If you get some Federal Gold Medal Match 175 grain ammo, you shouldn't have a problem shooting out to 1000 yds.

This is very similar to my new rig. I am doing the Remington 700 SPS Varmint left hand .308 with a SS 12x scope, SS rings, and a Badger 20 MOA base for $1039. I did save about $170 on the rifle as it is second hand. As soon as everything arrives I will assemble and get out to the range. I picked up a box of Federal Gold Match 168 gr today.

Great starting set up!! I think 12x is a great fixed power magnification. Have fun when it arrives!

thanks for the help guys. I selected on a rifle picked it up the other day. Its a savage model 10 FCP-SR. I have only had t out to 100 meters havent had range time. The gun seems to peform the way i want. I do like the accustock and accutriggre it comes with. I mounted A SS 12x scope, A 20 moa base, and SS rings.
