Canadia!
Hey guys,

Looking for a few items to develop my gear, maybe you guys will have some opinions or feelings!

Lots of stuff floating around right now, think I have found a really well made bore guide by J.Dewey (For my Steyr SSG-08)...

Then I'm looking for winter attire, including face cover (like a Balaclava or Shemagh), goggles, gloves, etc.

Then I'm looking for bag and drag bag (Eberlestock is looking promising). Debating the need for a hard case to enclose my drag bag with for transport...

Shooting mat that can attach to drag bag/pack (TAB seems like a strong contender) -- Please note I don't want a drag bag + shooting mat in one.

Rear bag that must have straps (TAB again looks like strong contender but Red Tac looks promising to).

Well made shooting journal aka data book.

And yea... those things should be enough to last me a little while

Any input or thought is welcome!

Thanks,
- Koshy

Re: Looking for some stuff, ideas/feelings?

Check out Schampa.com for balaclava / winter type stuff. I ride my motorcycle at under 40 degrees and its good stuff.

For winter face cover, Under Armour's hood is surprisingly warm and comfortable. Its also thin enough that you can wear another hat over it, for example, a baseball cap to keep the sun out of your eyes or some sort of thermal snow hat for another layer of insulation.
Under Armour Hood

Eagle makes good stuff as far as drag bags and shooting mats...I have the combo and even though that's not what you're looking for, I'm sure I wont be alone when I say that the quality is excellent.
Eagle Drag Bags

The Tab Gear rear bag is excellent

Storm Tactical makes very good data books
Storm Tatical

I think that about exhausts my list of input for what you need.

Re: Looking to develop my gear, help? Ideas/feelings?

Im using a Eberlestock G4 pack, they also have a nice shooting mat that I am probbably going to switch to. The G4 is very big, and heavy when full; good for several days of gear. If you only need a day pack look at the Gun-slinger. I use a neopream face shield and Wind-Stopper/Gortex gloves purchased from REI.
For data books I only use Storm Tactical. Made my own rear bag.
Hope this was some help to you.

As for the shooting mat, what do you currently use?

Re: Looking to develop my gear, help? Ideas/feelings?

Koshy, as far as a hard case, you might not need it. My wife got me an aluminum one a year or two ago for Xmas or Bday and used it a little. It quickly got replaced with a Drag Bag from cheaper than dirt. If you plan on flying with a gun then a hard locking case is required. For me it was more of a PITA using my hardcase. It fit akward in my car and will only fit one of my rifles. The drag bag will fit 2. Plus my drag bag has pockets for ammo, mags etc.
For a shooting mat I have used an old Army issue PT/sleeping mat. It rolls up and I can strap it onto a pack. If you have an military surplus store near you can pick one up for around ten bucks. Its not camo-ed but it works.
As far as winter clothes go, Under Armor is good. I have one of their face mask/balclavas and wear it hunting. Its nice because you have the options of wearing as balclava, neck gaiter etc. I try not to get all Tacti-cool when it comes to staying warm, old surplus wool pants an Army field jacket are hard to beat. Gloves, I use Oakley's when its not too cold out. Its been a while since I've shot or hunted in cold cold temps. Hope this helps.

Re: Looking to develop my gear, help? Ideas/feelings?

For a rod guide go with sinclair intl , they have great cleaning equipment. the rod guide has a good replacable o-ring to seal the chamber. data books I use are TRGT or impact. eagle or blackhawk drag bags are great and they can usually fit inside a pelican case (usually with just the rifle and no other gear in the bag). The eberlestock packs are good to carry your rifle and everything else in one package.

Re: Looking to develop my gear, help? Ideas/feelings?

Eberlestock is an amazing pack...Bought a Gunslinger II here on the hide and I couldn't be happier.
Look at [email protected] for the Eberlestock, he was a great guy to deal with, tell him you saw him here and he will throw some extra's in as well as free shipping. I also really like TAB Gear anything, another good guy.
