For an upcoming class at Peacemaker I am looking for a 1-4x or 1-6x scope.

I currently shoot 3 Gun events in Tac Limited (no magnification) with an RMR and co-witnessed Matech BUIS for the longer distances. The main purpose of the rear BUIS is to clear up the sight picture with a reduced diameter peephole. I usually leave the RMR on and ignore the dot in favor of the front post. This works great even on overcast days but the longest 3 Gun stage I have seen here at the East Coast was 300 yards.

Anyway, the class at Peacemaker will go out to 600 yards and that may be pushing it with the open sights. If I can't see the target, I can't hit it.

I am very reluctant to plunk down BIG$$$$ for an S&B in that power range and am looking for something a little more affordable without entering the junk category.

What would you suggest from your experience.

Vortex Gen II HD 1-6x (SFP)

Or,

I hate to say it, maybe a USO 1.5-6x (FFP)

Fuck that, get a Mk6 with either a .223 or.308 reticle.

Thanks.

If I put a scope on my 3Gun rifle, it needs to be a true 1x for the hoser stages.
I may just show up for that class with my RMR/peep-hole hack and bring a 3-9x as a backup.

You didnt mention what your budget is, but USO has a 1-4x with an internal Red-Dot.
Vortex stuff is pretty nice too.

BUDGET - what budget? Just kidding, I could see myself parting with about $800-$1000 on the upper pain limit.

My reluctance to spend more has to do with my limited use of a 1-4x scope. Open sights/red dot is great for home defense etc. When I go hunting I do not need anything smaller than 3x and for target shooting I go way above that.

I came to preferring Tac Limited from trying to see what I can do with what I already had (dot and BUIS). This turned out to be a competitive advantage because most recreational shooters can't hit past 50 yards without a scope.

But let's be realistic, 600 yards is very far without magnification unless you are aiming at NRA "barn door" targets. I think that Peacemaker uses 1 or 2 MOA steel.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll see what I can fondle next week in the local stores.

The most critical item for me will be the 1x performance, i.e. how much the scope obscures and distorts compared to the RMR with both eyes open.
Second criteria is the visibility of the dot/reticle at 1x and max power.
BDC reticle for the 5.56 would be a bonus but not necessary.

The SS 1-6x24 is a very nice piece of glass around $1k.

Also look at the Sightron SIII /STAC 1-7x24, reports I've read mention the glass being phenomenal- especially for the price.

For 1-4x's, I love me some Trijicon accupoint and Meopta.

For higher priced stuff, I'd be looking at Leupy Mk6, Leupy Mk8 CQBSS, USO SR-8 1-8x, Swaro Z6i 1-6x.
