I ended up with 700 Federal Gold Medal LR Mag primers, except I have no magnum rifles to load them in. Is it possible (or even practical) to load them in standard rifle loads, such as .308?

Yes, use them. Just back off on the powder a couple of grains and work up as usual.
At one time I only used Magnum primers for both rifle and pistol.
No problem.....

Both my 20" 308 bolt rifle likes mag primers more than standard with Varget. Almost feels like with the slow burner & shorter barrel, the powder needs more of a jump start. Recoil is more mild with the mag primer suggesting I'm getting a more complete burn.

My 22.75" 308 bolt doesn't shoot well with mag primers.

Just a preference thing, I would not use mag primers in 308 semi-auto loads.
