I started making our SuperDuty line of barrel vises after killing a few different brands that I'd bought over the years. The tempo/duty cycle we have here just exceeded what they were really made for. The one on the shop floor is around 13 or 14 years old now. We've murdered the nuts/bolts twice during that time. The threads simply gave up and started to gall. I estimate the duty cycle to be somewhere around 43,000 so I think I got my money's worth.

The photos detail the ColorCase and "in the white" finish options. We have also Ceracoted and parkerized these for clients.

This vise features all-steel construction. Bolts are 1" dia in Grade 8. The nuts/washers are self-aligning to ensure full contact as they are tightened up. The ball/socket behavior of the nut/washer ensures concentric contact with the top clamp portion of the vise over a wider range of parallelism errors. A pair of coil springs sit between the top/base pieces to help with splitting the two halves apart when loosening things up to remove the barrel.

Our collets are also fully machined from steel and a full set is included and covers the majority of barrel contours.

The clamp bolts are drilled/machined for 1/2-13 bolts making installation a snap. This also allows the top/bottom to have some floating ability to compensate for any alignment errors. The added benefit with this setup is that if a mounting bolt ever fails for some reason, the cost of replacement is reduced because all that is damaged is a common bolt easily found at any fastener retailer. The vise itself remains unmolested. Barrels can be extremely challenging to remove at times and the idea I pursued with this product was to ensure that the "consumables" are easily replaced without damaging the expensive pieces.

    Thanks for lookin'. Enjoy.

That's some hotness there, if I was still in the market for a barrel vise, this would be top of the list I think.
