Lyman case timmer problem.

Re: Lyman case timmer problem.

Are you using the hand crank, or powered (drill, etc.)?

Mine will chatter if I go too fast (I use a drill) and I have to be sure to get the case locked in tight. I usually push the cutter up to the neck before locking it down. That seems to help square it up. No need to ram it home, but just so it's touching the neck before I tighten it.

I've had my Lyman Universal since '95 and I've trimmed a lot of cases on it. I use the power drill bar, that came with its own steel cutting head, so I've used two steel cutters over the years.

I don't know what you mean by "gouging"?

Are you slamming the bar up against the case mouth rim?

Chatter can be caused by a dull cutting head, or really hard brass.

Sometimes brass is harder for some reason and it'll be tougher to cut.

Is this cutting head new?

I haven't a clue what you're talking about.
