Is anyone else having issues with their M&P magazines? I've had my M&P45 for about a year now and the magazines are failing. I don't shoot it that much because I carry a Glock so most of my training is devoted to that.

The issue is when I load the 10th round into the mag to fill it. It seems to screw something up in the spring so that after a couple shots the spring is caught or unable to feed the other rounds. I disassembled it thinking that it might have been dirty but after cleaning it it was still doing it. So then I took them apart again to look for spurs but didn't find any.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

Re: M&P magazine issues

Try calling Smith and Wesson. They have really good customer service in my opinion and might be able to help you out.

Re: M&P magazine issues

I have thousands of rounds before I even change the springs on my mags. Have they been seated from having rounds left in the mag? They should be pulled out and take the springs by each end and pull them apart a little but not to much. Also if you call Smith and Wesson they will get a set shipped out to you asap. You are looking at two weeks until you have some new springs.
Let us know what happens.

Re: M&P magazine issues

If you are shooting reloads, you may have some rounds with excessive COAL which are binding in the mag once they get pushed down unde several rounds.

Re: M&P magazine issues

I just posted this on another site:

I had this issue with my mags two years ago. My mags had been loaded for one week, and my spring was bound on three out of three mags. I contacted the LE rep in my area, and he stated that they had this issue with some 45's in NC and it was getting to be more wide spread. I sent 20 mag springs back to S&W, from 10-14 rounders. They kept the things for 4 months "testing" the springs. Their conclusion was the mag staying loaded for too long made the defective springs stand out. I got new springs that were tested and told that they were in compliance.

I don't use the M&P 45 anymore.

Luckily I don't carry the M&P45 I carry a Glock, but it would be nice to know I could have depended on the gun if I needed to. I may use it in a trade for another Glock

Re: M&P magazine issues

I dont have a 45 but I carry a M&P 9mm daily on and off duty and have never had a problem with mags, same with my compact. I keep 6 spare mags fully loaded in my go-bag at all times and they get rotated out with my 3 duty mags every month when I go to the range. My guess would be that I have around 500+ rounds though each mag now with no problems.

That may be a good plan, at least it would be for me. Do you gun owning brothers a favor though, get the springs changed out first by Smith, then sell it. Don't want someone else using shitty springs.
