M40A1 repo mounts and rings

From what I gathered. There are at least a two or three different profiles to that cap that has been seen. Also they’ve seen blind holes, the two hole variation which is being made as I understand it (which are all threaded so you can move the cap a little forward or back) and a 3 hole variation.
Thank you for the info Frank, I am FAR from knowledgeable on these things so I appreciate the explanation.

Hey all. Not to keep harping on the subject of the ring screw hole width spacing, but want to clarify my previous posts on comparisons between these group buy repro mounts and others, and in regards to simrad cap fit and compatibility.

So another mount I recently acquired that was advertised as a real Unertl mount turns out to probably be a TMA/TheHogsDen mount. After a credible authority on these items questioned whether the mount was a real Unertl or not, I pulled out a couple of loose real Unertl mounts I’ve had for years (even before clone/repros were really a thing).

Comparing the two real Unertl mounts I have with the other new mount I recently acquired, there was a very slight difference in the rings’ screw hole spacing. The two real Unertl mounts’ rings hole spacing is just slightly smaller than the new mount’s.

The Badger simrad cap fits the real Unertl mounts perfectly, but the screw holes are very slightly misaligned and will not work on the new mount:

The TMA simrad cap I have fits perfectly with the other new mount I recently acquired, reinforcing the point that the mount is a TMA too. Interestingly, the TMA simrad cap also fits onto the real Unertl mounts, although the screws grind a little bit when tightened down due to the slight screw hole spacing difference.

And neither simrad caps will work with this group buy’s mounts, due to these mounts having slightly wider screw hole spacing still. So looking forward to the simrad caps that will be made for this group buy!

My TMA mount will fit Redfield ring top half’s on it. I was surprised it actually would
