M40a1 scope mount question....

Can an m40a3 mount be fitted to an m40a1? I assume the lugs are machined differently? Wanted to make it easy to switch between a hunting scope and a scope for vintage sniper matches....
No, the A3/5 mount is 8-40, has different lug dimensions, and requires the rear bridge to be cut flat .135" lower than the front of the action. Any standard 6-48 Remington 700 scope base will work on an A1 though.

So there are no scope mounts that take advantage of the clip slots except for the original/repo m40 mounts?
