So a couple days back I posted a question in the gunsmithing area asking what the best way to thread a barrel was on a CNC Lathe. Well I got back several great answers and off to the machine shop I went. I wanted to thread my M40A3 that I got from an armorer at the Quantico weapons lab. I was EXTREMELY nervous to work on this rifle because of the amount of time and money that went into building it, not to mention a real deal military smith assembled this thing. I hold it high on my pedestal of favorite rifles because of that fact. It could be over serving in Iraq but I was lucky enough to get it.

Anyways, I took it in last night and we masksed it off and chucked it up in the 4 jaw lathe. We did all measurements and wrote the program. Then this morning I went back in and watched my buddy run the program and watched the machine cut the new threads. It turned out awesome! I installed a spare YHM Phantom QD can and man I love this rifle even more now. I kept it traditional, no DBM, no over sized bolt knob. A simply duracoat camo job from the guys at the weapons lab and Im ready to rock now.

Here are some pics of it:
