My newly acquired sps-varmint .300wsm won't feed correctly. The rounds get stuck on the bottom half of the bolt guide rails. The rounds fit properly into the mag and everything, they just get stuck on the rails, preventing it from being chambered. This even happens with one round in the mag. It really messes up the brass, also.

Anything I can do to fix this without sending it to a smith? I'm a diy kinda guy.

Thanks

Re: M700 .300wsm won't feed

It might just be that your mag feed lips need to be bent a little.

I had the same problem with my AICS mags. They fit rounds well but wouldn't load correctly. The reason for this is that the mags were meant to fit .308's correctly not the .300WSM. A slight bend in the feed lips fixed it for me.

Re: M700 .300wsm won't feed

Did you buy it new or used? If it doesn't feed and messes up your brass you should be contacting Remington with a QA/QC inquiry. IMO you should not have to foot the bill for a 3rd party to fix a rifle if you bought it new and it has not been abused.

Good call Viav. After comparing the 300wsm to my .308 m700, the .308 feed lips are bent towards the middle more versus the .300.

The rifle is new.

Re: M700 .300wsm won't feed

Were you talking bolt raceway edges that the mag must feed through or the feed lips of your magazine. A couple of years ago I bought a magnum LA that the WSM brass wouldnt feed through reliably and even got stuck a few times really tearing up my brass. I eased the edges with a dremmil stone then finnished with emery cloth and havent had a problem since. Hope i'm reading your question correctly.

Re: M700 .300wsm won't feed

The raceway edges is what it's getting stuck on, but I feel that bending the lips may help. Center the cartridge better, but I may be wrong.

Re: M700 .300wsm won't feed

one way to find out is to take the action out of the stock and remove the bolt. Now try and pass a cartridge through the raceway in the same manner as it would be feeding from the mag. My bet is that you will have clearence problems with the head of the case and the raceway. A few light passes on the rear 2 thirds of the raceway lips with a dremmel and a stone bit finnished with some emmery cloth will fix it right up.
