Question for some folks with more experience than me.

Can you see a 3" square at 300 yds with 14x magnification? Suppose this would be on a cardboard (brown) or posterboard (white) back drop ?

Scope is a Falcon Menace 4-14x. I've just never put a target out that far that was that size. Just curious if it's even possible ? The target I'm considering is a Shoot-N-C target. I have a bunch of 3" stick ons laying around. I imagine everyone is familiar with them, but it would be a 3" black circle with a half inch red dot in the center.

It seems like this would be possible. To make it simple (which is all I'm capable of) 3" x 14 = 42" and that's like seeing a 3.5' with the naked eye at that point?

Re: magnification and target size ??

This is more about glass quallity and reticle thickness than about magnification. I am able to aim 19mm (0.75") spots at 100m with 3.5x magnification and German T reticle

Re: magnification and target size ??

The answer to a question like this is always "it depends on contrast and lighting".

Think about it, I can see a front porch light at night up in the mountains above me from miles away. And that light is only a few inches in diameter

But sure, I can see a 3" bullseye at 300 yards if it is good contrast (black on white) and well lit (sun is shining on it).

No problem seeing a 6" bullseye from 1000 yards either, again, if well lit.
