I had just built a 6.5 Grendel on a AR style setup (i had built many .223 AR before) I also just got into reloading maybe 4 months ago. Well i loaded 3 different loads for the 6.5 and when I was at my house I chambered a load to see how it chambered and the round got so stuck by the time I got the bolt pulled back it pulled the brass right off the bullet! Powder everywere! (im sure many of you are laughing your ass off!) I didnt put into account that the Reloading data a read From Alexander Arms was for a Bolt gun. I tried the other 2 loads not as bad but did stick in the chamber. The 3 loads ans OAL i loaded are:
120gr. Sierra MK/27.0gr. H4895/OAL 2.225" <span style="font-weight: bold">lowered to 2.110"</span>
120gr. A-MAX/27.2gr. H335/ OAL 2.225" <span style="font-weight: bold">lowered to 2.135"</span>
123 Scenars/ 28gr. Varget/ OAL 2.265" <span style="font-weight: bold">lowered to 2.220"</span>

I didnt remember. Big mistake, so I had to take the whole gun apart cuz powder was all thru it. So i seated the bullets deeper and deeper (slowly) until i could drop them into the chamber and push them in and turn the gun upsidedown untill the bullet falls out of the chamber on its own by gravity. The OAL I changed them to in bold is what i got. Also the mark from the land on the bullet it left when it got stuck i seated them .010 behind that pretty much. You would think it would show this in the data! So I guess i have to find the land on every bullet i want to reload for it Cuz there is no OAL data for a AR setup. Any ideas or help? The barrel and bolt i used was a Sabre Defense 18" Comp. Deluxe and the bolt i used was the bolt they sent with the bbl. Why did this happen? because thet were hitting the lands and needed seated farter in, right? All the info on AA website lists their OAL. Ex. 120gr. SMK OAL 2.220" My bbl would not fit that, I had to lower it to 2.110". Why? I know all rifes/bbl are different but not by this much.
Im sure i made many of you laugh by reading this.

Yeah, been there before. I'd suggesting picking up a Stoney Point (now a Hornady tool) Depth Checker to measure the proper seating depth for your bullets in your chamber. Once you have the measurement, you can then figure out where to seat your bullets to avoid this very issue.

Good luck! ;>

There those who have and those who will.

Every projectile type has its own profile. VLD's are longer nosed than a Sierra etc.
OAL means little to a projectile profile that is very long in the nose. Where the ogive contacts the lands/grooves is the critical factor. An easy way to work through this is to seat the projectile a bit longer than it should be, <span style="font-style: italic">ease</span> the cartridge into the throat with the bolt. Don't let it slam forward. <span style="font-style: italic">Ease</span> it in.
Now eject it smartly, quickly and the projectile should stay in the case. Now measure it, back it off a few thousandths and proceed from there to determine the best freebore for that particular load/projectile combo.
