Did you hear that Defense Secretary Gates passed up the best combat leader in the Marine Corps since the Korean War, General Mattis, for a frigging Air-Winger! Hell I thought air-wingers were not allowed to be Commandant, only assistant Commandant!

The reason Gates gave was General Amos would be more aggreable to proposed military budget cuts then General Mattis, who probably would have called him a goddamn pussy before bitch-slapping his sorry ass!

I would say this appointment is about typical for the 0bama MisAdministration!

Re: Marine Corps new Commandant

It is good. The infantry legacy survives. The wing will approve the "big change" brewing. Laugh at the idiocy and the PC simplicity of it, and another brick is added to the wall.

Can you imagine the future? When all symbology is seen as historical, and dangerous, and deemed unworthy?

There really was a Swastika. Rather than a sign of the men and their times, it represented only hatred.
There really was a Stars and Bars. Rather than a sign of the men and their times, it represented only racism.
There really was an Eagle, Globe and Anchor. Rather than people that would sacrifice for their nation, it represented only violent men that would fight any foe for nationalistic pursuits.

There really was a cross...

In our smallness, we cannot see very far.

There will be some offended by my use of symbols, but to deny them is almost to deny that we lived...

And a unit here with that symbol on its shoulder flash - with a gun in the middle.

Re: Marine Corps new Commandant

Don't you think General Mattis would rather be at a Combat Command such as Central Command rather than be a REMF sitting back at HQ?

Re: Marine Corps new Commandant

I just hope Mattis stays the course, so when the yes man gets irrevocably mired in the inevitible consequences of political correctness and progressive demilitarism, the Corps will still have a leader capable of taking over the reins in a time of restored national sanity.

Public policy is a pendulum; and as far as it swings in one direction, you can count on it swaying back as far the other way.

or;

Payback is a Motherfracker.

Gates is buying his own rope, and lots of it. It's not the drop that hurts, it that stop when you run out of rope. I favor the hypothetical picture of a long rope and no blindfold, so the sucker can see it comin'.

...and on that day (loooong)...

Re: Marine Corps new Commandant

Funny how, having the ability to say yes is a desired skill over actual skill (experience/ability).

Unfortunately, this isn't just a problem in the military.
