Rifle Scopes Mark 5 vs Cronus BTR

And I know there are other options but asking specifically about these two.
Do you think the glass and tracking are on par with each other though?
I'd go with the mark 5. That's the scope that I am saving for at the moment. The Athlon is a nice scope, but the mark 5 offers a few features that I prefer. Locking turret, eazy zero stop, windage limiting stop (I could be wrong), parallax knob is able to be reset to align the markings with your eyes, alumina scope caps, made in America.
Granted, those are features I like but aren't things that are all needed. Also, the price difference isn't that large. I've seen the cch for under $1900. That makes the price gap much smaller than $700. The tremor 3 illuminated can be found for $2500, and that's $700 different in price, but you are getting a Horus reticle and illumination that is much more useful in real world circumstances.

I was meaning the illumination. Rather than being fully lit, it has points that are lit that give you a precise aim point without disrupting your vision or focus of the target.
I am fine with just the TMR I don’t like a lot going on to have to look at. I rarely hold over and if I do I’m fine doing it with a tmr. So the price diff is not that much for me. Really wondering about glass and tracking comparison.
I’ve seen the 25x for $2k. Not worried about the price difference just looking at scope vs scope.
I believe eurooptic is offering 13% off Leupold scopes right now, so it would be $1740 for the TMR.
I have Cronus BTR, it’s a very nice scope but honestly I like the Vortex Razor Gen II HD much better. The Razor has better glass, and a much sturdier feel, beefier turret knobs , much sharper and more auditable clicks , zero stop, etc. I have many Leupold optics and they are nice but I prefer the Razor and the NF ATACR over Leupold and Athlon Cronus.

Even if you say you're ignoring the price difference, I can't say I understand that at all. If we're ignoring price, I want a TT. If we're looking at TT, we shouldn't be ignoring price.
But even ignoring price, the Cronus has a better reticle than anything Leupold offers. And the glass is stupidly good for the money. And if you're comparing the 3.6-18 MK5 to the 4.5-29 Cronus, then it also has tons more mag range. If you're not, then the price difference discussion really comes back into play.

I was just pointing out that the price difference is minimal. As far as the reticle, sure one may look cooler but it also is busy and if you don't ever hold over it is pointless.
A few hundred dollars isnt minimal, its almost a months rent.

And the cheapest I have found either scope listed, the MK5 IS $100 cheaper. You are welcome to post a link lower price on the BTR if you are able.
I got my btr for 1k, my cousin got his for 1300. The best prices will never be listed on a website, call around to the right places (forum vendors) at the right times and you’ll be far better off.

Nice. That's what I'm looking for. Real world experience! Do you think overall BTR build quality is on par with the MK5?
So you pick the highest price for a BTR and lowest for a MK5 and say the price difference doesn't exist?
Let's at least have discussions with intellectual honesty here...
ETA: I just picked up a non-BTR Cronus (nearly identical) for $900 in mint condition. Half the price of a MK5.
Holy fucking shit I said in the very beginning that price was not a factor and asked about glass and mechanics. If you want to post a lower advertised price for the BTR do it. . And if we are adding the used market to the price list this could get very complicated. The gen 1 is not the BTR so what the hell does that have to do with anything? I just can’t understand why, when the premise of the thread is glass and mechanics and specifically excludes price, spife or whatever his name is and others come in like clowns claiming “gotcha” on price and saying “it’s clear you want the Leupold”. What the hell are y’all even taking about? Where did I make it clear that I want the Leupold? I don’t even know if I will buy one of these two. But don’t come at me with “let’s be intillectually honest” and then cry when I fire back. And where is the well known fact that the BTR is much cheaper than advertised? The cheapest I found looking hard just now was 1600. So it’s 1/15th cheaper than the Leupold. Hence the reason I said to ignore price. I’m not going to make a scope decision over $100. Now I’ll take you up on that beer.
I've purchased a few new Cronus BTR's for well below $1500. That being said the glass looked good on the Mk5 I looked through, didn't care for the reticle.
Depends on what is more important to you.
If the nice christmas tree reticle that the Athlon offers is appealing, go with the Cronus.
If the glass and build quality and company backing is more appealing do the Mk5. (I would gamble my house to say Leupold is never going to be shutting down. Athlon on the other hand is, at the moment, a fly by night production. They have great offerings, great prices, and something for everyone at every price point so they may be around for a long long time as well.)
You can't go wrong with either choice. I personally would do the Mk5 having had one to play with.
Having had a Mk5 I can tell you that they are awesome scopes, especially considering the price.
I had a Mk5, 624i, and S&B PM2 all laid out at the same time at the range so I could do a legit comparison.
The glass is killer, the build quality is excellent, the turrets are great, but the reticle selection is shit. I dont like the H59 or the T3 because of how busy they are.
I havent had the chance to get my hands on a Cronus yet, but at that price point and with how the shooters using them perform, I wouldnt hesitate to buy one. They certainly aren't holding anyone back.
IMO, the rest of the Athlon scopes are gun show garbage. I've messed with every level of them besides the Cronus and would be pissed spending the money at any price point.
