Rifle Scopes Match Rifle SIghts

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

I've to buy them too, for my tube gun.
I'm still undecided between Phoenix Precision, Warner Tool Company and Centra, for the rear sight.
Once you add up front and rear sight and irises, they are NOT cheap!

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

Alan Warner makes the best rear sight available. For front sights Centra or RPA.

Warner sights are made one at a time as they are orderd, so check Warner's web sight. Champions choise and Sinclair's also have a good selection of sights.

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

Warner is as good as it gets for your rear sight, with Phoenix being a very close second. I have both - got the Warner first, then bought a Phoenix for another rifle. If I had bought the Phoenix first I probably would have 2 phoenix sights right now instead of one of each, the reason being the cost. $500 for the Warner and $355 for the Phoenix and to me, the Warner is a bit better but just not $155 better. I like the knobs of the Warner a little bit better and I like that each click is numbered for easy visual reference vs every 4th click numbered on the phoenix. Both sights have 12 clicks per revolution(3 MOA, depending on sight radius). Both are top-notch as far as quality of materials and workmanship and both track absolutely dead-on.

For front sights I have 2 RightSights from Stallings Machine. One is set up for XTC shooting and the other for long range with front and rear sunshades.
I haven't found anything better.

Good luck,
Erik

Exact same situation here...

Here also, can you help by explaining the difference in setup/config, and why it's important?

Hoping to use my MAK for both XTC and longrange...

OP: Hope you don't feel I'm not hijacking your thread -- seems relevant?

Thanks in advance,

As far as the RightSights go, the sight by itself is around 2 inches long but with the front and rear shades it is probably 5 or 6 inches long. The shades are great for prone shooting but they catch a lot of wind in the offhand position, especially at the end of a 28" long barrel. For that reason I just use the sight with no shades for my XTC gun. Also, you can buy extra bases and move the sight between different rifles in about 5 seconds. It's totally repeatable - just remember your "0" stem settings on each rifle. Check out the pics on stallings web page if you haven't already - top pic shows the sight with and without shades:

Good luck,

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

I read on the Stallings. It looks like it comes with pretty much everything. I tried to call them but they wasn't open yet. The 30mm seems to be the way to go on the front sight. Is there a big advantage to the 30mm?

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

dar,

I'm a service rifle guy (trying to get into match rifle XTC and longrange/palma next year), so take this w/ a grain of salt. Hopefully some of the others will chime in.

I'm pretty sure the rules say you can't have an iris on both front and back at the sametime. If you have that Gehmann on the front, what are you going to do on the phoenix on the rear?

Just curious what you and others are doing...

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

I think you are right about the iris in you can't have both front and rear. I could be wrong also. I thought I would purchase both to see which one I like more.
On the rear iris I might try the color one. I have the 510 ordered right now but will experiment this winter with this.

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

If you are gonna spend $3k on a rifle and sights I suggest you spend another $7.00 on a rulebook. We would not be recommending front and rear adjustable apertures along with a front lens if they were not legal for the sport.

You cannot have magnifying optics on both sights, e.g. a front sight with .5 lens and rear sight with the diopter option.

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

If you get the Stallings Machine Right Sight it will have a very good .5 lens.... A lens in the rear will keep you shooting marksmans scores for a long time. Crap for long range. I tried them about 15 years ago, cheap and have horrible parallax.

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

I'am going to get the Stallings 30mm. I think Ninehotel is right. Who would have thought that there would be this much to think about in match rifle. When I started to plan to shoot this. I figured it would be easy to setup. Kinda figured that one wrong. Another lesson learned.

Re: Match Rifle SIghts

It is actually very easy. We already told you all you need to know.

I built my Palma rifle with these brands strung together and equipment has not been an issue. I wanted my Palma rifle to be like my Service Rifle - good stuff that works so I can get on with the shooting. Here is the list -

Barnard/Mastin/Krieger/Warner/Gehmann 510/Riles/Sierra/Lapua/Varget

30mm US made sight is a no brainer decision. The imported stuff Sinclair has - forget it.
