I am rebuilding a mauser and was curious as what to expect in terms of accuracy. I know mauser's arent typically benchrest rifles for a reason. What have you'll seen a rebuilt mauser do?

I was hoping for moa, is this realistic?

I will post pics when I am done.

Details are:
Vz24 action
6.5x55 Shilen CM 26"
Timney trigger
Aluminum firing pin.
B&C medalist bedded.

I understand this is a broad question and very hard to answer becuase of so many differnt things go into accuracy. I was just curious if I have realistic expectations. Are 1/2 moa realistic?

Thanks

MOA is a realistic expectation, many, many Mauser 98's have been built into tack drivers. After WWII, the "fathers" of bench rest used those actions all the time. The devil is in the details, as they say. The quality of the parts, and how the parts are put together will usually determine how well it will shoot once it is assembled. Some of the finest and most beautiful hunting rifles ever assembled by American Gun Smiths and stock makers started life as a surplus Mauser. Good luck, the Fin 6.5 has always had (and still does) a reputation for fine accuracy. Put up a photo when you're done, I'm guessing you'll have a keeper.

I have a friend that started a mausar project about 30 years ago and never finished it. Anyway he asked me if I wanted it since I was messing around with rifles. I took it and done some internet searches to see what I had. Turned out to be a VZ24. He had had the action trued, a new safety installed, a timney trigger. Bolt handle was redone and was drilled an taped for a scope base he had (leupold). As far as he got was just the action and he had picked up a couple of stocks hear and there. Well I didn't want to put a lot on money into the project so I ordered a Adams & Bennett barrel (short chambered in a 260, 1/9 twist and 24"). I had a smith chamber it in a 260 improved 30 degree (I had the reamer and dies). Put it all together and it turned out to be a shooter Under a moa out to 500. I really pleased with the way it turned out. I'm going to give it back to him. 212.JPG
