hey yall saw what appeared to be a mcmillan adjustable stock comb/cheek riser thingy at a gunshop the other day and got to wondering if that would mount to a fiber m1a stock by just poppin a few holes. that rifle needs a high comb for optics and right now just has a stock pouch with puss pads built up under it for height. has anyone tried this and know if its a good option?

Re: mcmillan adjustable comb

I'll second the Karsten. I've set a couple of them up for guys in the area. The saddle type from McMillan I've had on one rifle, and had the center post break off. They did replace it with about a 1 week turn around. For an adjustable cheek piece I would either go with the karsten or an integral type.

Re: mcmillan adjustable comb

The Karsten piece is OK if you want something quick. If you want something that is much more professional take a USGI fiberglass stock and hack off a portion of it and epoxy it to another USGI unit till you get this. Shot the rifle and it worked perfectly!

Re: mcmillan adjustable comb

just checked out the Karsten, seems to be basically the same as the mcmillan, but what about the factory composite stock, will it be sturdy enough? Marduk you,ve seen my M1A that has the Mcmillan M3A stock, it is pretty substancial material in the butt, thick and wide........ha ha that sounds sick

Re: mcmillan adjustable comb

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Guys have put them on everything from wood to plastics to composites without problems.

I will also give my +1 for the Karsten's piece. Have one and love it.
