I picked up a new McMillan A5 stock here in the Post Exchange. It was advertised as having a Heavy Varmint contour and I'm pretty sure it isn't. I was planning on dropping a Bartlein M40 contour barrel in it but not a chance without some modificaton. It appears to be more of a Palma or Sendero contour which s OK because I would actually prefer a lighter barrel. Starting at the recoil lug the shank diameter is 1.35" and in about 3.5" it tapers down to 1.04". At the end of the forearm it is .97". Anybody recognize these dimensons and can name the contour?

    Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but factory heavy varmints tend to be very, very similar to a Sendero contour (Palma style taper), as opposed to a straight taper (ie. target contours, including M40 contour).

That could be very true. I was going by several barrel manufacturers definiton of "heavy varmint". Does Remington actually have a barel contour called Heavy Varmint? I'm familer with the standard varmint and the Sendero.
