After lurking around the hide for the past year or so and finally getting my rifle that I have been piecing together machined and assembled I thought I would it share with some people that would truly appreciate it. In the corps the M40a5 was my bread and and butter and was the base for my build. This is my first rifle I have built and wouldn't have been able to do it without the wealth of knowledge I have gathered from this site, so, thank you all for that.

-McMillan G30 Long Action .300WM
-McMillan A5 Tactical Stock
-McMillan 20Moa Rail
-Kreiger #10 Chromoly 1:12 twist 4 Groove, 27.5" cut length
-Surefire SOCOM Muzzle Break/ suppressor adapter
-Jewell Trigger, set at 2 lbs.
-Badger Ordnance M5 bottom metal, flush
-Badger Ordnance embedded front rail (EFR)

Currently the rifle is at Robar getting its fancy new coatings, awesome company to deal with by the way, and i will post finished pics when I get it back.

I am in the process of picking a optic for this rifle and am torn between the US Optics LR3.2-17x 44 or the S&B PMII 4-16x50. My main use of this rifle will be on steel out to the 1600yd mark. Any input would be appreciated, and again, Thank you all for the knowledge that I have pulled from this site so far.

Great looking rifle that is perfectly spec'd. Those actions are fantastic. On optics, of the two, I would choose the S&B and think hard about going to the 5-25.

With going into the 5-25 range, from what I had understood your putting an optic on the rifle that will overpower the rounds being fired. With a lower power optic it kinda keeps your shooting within it's limits. Please, I'm always looking for insight and would much appreciate the reasoning behind the deeper glass.

That's a beautiful rifle, how did you get your hairris to sit flush and snug against the stock? When I picked one up I had problems with the fitment because of the width and flatness on the bottom of the fore end. Is there adapter you picked up or fab'd up to make the fitment more snug? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thats a beautiful set up, How did you get the Harris to sit snug on the fore end of the stock? When I installed mine the front of my stock was too flat to properly seat the bipod against it securely. Did you use the harris flat fore end adapter or not have this problem at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Mcmuffin,

The 300WM is a powerhouse. When using some of the bigger bullets (208 AMAX, 230 Berger) you can really reach out there. I guess I prefer to have a little higher magnification. Just about all my precision scopes are in the 20x-25x range. With a 5-25 I don't think you well feel you have too much scope.

With using those larger bullets do I need to worry about burning through my barrel more quickly at my 1:12 rate as opposed to a 1:10? I guess with buying a more powerful scope I can always carry it to another rifle later, I'll just be sure not to tell the wife so I can buy another with the next build.

Can you still buy actions from McMillan?

Yes. I ordered through a gentleman by the name of Gerald Hills at McMillan. Awesome man to work with, very knowledgable and knew what I needed to get my build going right. I got just the action from McMillan directly. It took about 10weeks from time of order to receipt of the action.
