Ok, but how come I can read all the rest of your posts?? Looking at your post history everything seems completely readable as opposed to what's written above, that's why it's confusing, not trying to make fun here.

That is someething i can not explaine. The Doc thinks that i may be trying to type to fast and that i should try to slow down like i am now. There are words i can't spell and i sit with a dictionary by my side and try to look them up but with no luck. I wish i could put words together like i use to but it just dose not come to me like it did before i got bit.All i can do is try and if that isn't good enough then i don't no what else to do. When i type to fast the letters get messed up in my head this i know. I use to rewire hueys years ago but i fergot how now same with Harleys.I don't feel sorry for my self it is something that happene'd and i just live with it. Ok off my soap box. MM

I have four ar barrel's that i was thinking of sending them off to have the melonite process done. In the past 6 months or so i have seen articles were people have had some trouble with the barrel nut cracking and or the barrel backing out. I was wondering if any one has had this same problem?

Re: Melonite ar i5

Couple of things.

Meloniting involves heating up the metal. This can remove previous heat treating and cause problems.

Funny you should mention the barrel backing out. I had an AR15 upper with a melonited barrel, and the upper got replaced b/c the barrel nut came loose(while the rifle was sitting in a safe). Upper was previously fine when received and was used for a while w/o any problems.

Re: Melonite ar i5

I have a few hundred barrels a month Melonite treated.
First if you have barrels already with gas ports in them you should not do it. The barrel and extension heat up, they will be loosen after the treatment and must be re-torqued so the gas port will no longer line up. They may only be off .050 but still off enough to cause problems.
Melonite hardens the barrels to 60-70 Rockwell so it does not hurt the barrel which is normally around 45 rockwell, it greatly increases barrel life and corrosion resistant to salt water.
Bad news most places charge $500 for a batch fee, seems like one place gathers single barrels from customers and then runs a batch.

Re: Melonite ar i5

How do i go about as i understand it 50 rounds down a ar barrell without the gas hole drilled in it. All of mine are drilled so they are out of the question. I have two rock barrels one in 6'5x47 lapua and the other in 308 that i would like to send off after the 50 rounds are shot. Would there be any complcations with these rifle barrels?
