I think it’s a reasonable assumption that it will be a long time before reasonably-priced ammo loaded with newest-gen monolithic bullets becomes available in stores. I also don’t see it being easier to get good powders.

As such, I’m interested in exploring ”Mexican match” ammo in as safe a fashion as can be managed. At its simplest, this would be pulling the bullets that come in the ammo and replacing those with monolithics, but presumably there are another few steps that would be recommended to double-check safety:
  • Remove a few grains of powder to check safe pressure on the first few shots
  • Keep bullet weights and freebore comparable
Anything else y’all can think of?

Edit: I also think this will be a key enabler for 22LR.

Haven’t started procurement yet, but between PVA, Badlands, Warner, and Hammer I’m not too concerned about being able to get something going with a few months notice.

Right now I’m only looking at this from the perspective of initial feasibility - I know that I know enough to be dangerous, but not enough to bring that back around to safety.

You rang?

getting 22 solids isn’t as easy as one would think. Might have to know a guy😜
