Hey guys, I've been reading around a bit, learning as best I can, and I am looking to buy my first scope before too long. I'm probably going to have $600-700 to spend after rings and base, and I need a little help.

I've been looking at the Bushnell 4200 and 6500 scopes mainly, but I would rather start myself off with Mil/Mil vs. mismatched mildot reticle/moa turrets, or moa/moa.

Other features I'd like to have are FFP, 6-24 or near, and 40-50 objective.

Are there any comparative scopes in this range, or am I just watching the wrong hand fill up here? I'd love to go with an awesome high dollar scope, but that's a long wait that I don't have the patience for.

I appreciate the input to another nub on the site, and the vast knowledge that's already here.

Re: Mil/Mil scope decision.

Yeah Trapper, I'd seen that, and I'd love to have the 6-24x50, instead of the 3-12x44 but even with the price cut it's still going to be out of range.

Chops, thanks for the Falcon info. Did a search and found some good and bad on it, but for the price I have a good idea that it will work until I can afford something nice, like a NF. That would leave me enough to get a base and some left over towards rings as well, so it's even better than I had hoped.

Coldbore, yeah from what I've been reading all over the Hide, these seem like the best thing to do to assist in training myself properly. Since I'm pretty much starting from scratch, I want to start out with something that a lot more people do and comment in terms of, so I can understand the compared information better.

After this stuff, it'll be saving for an Atlas bipod. I figure the scope is much more important to have first than the bipod. I can bench practice with one, but not without the other!

Thanks again for the help guys!

Re: Mil/Mil scope decision.

Well guys, I think I changed my mind on what I'm going to spend, as well as what I'm looking at. I ended up thinking I'd hate to miss the $610 deal on the 4200 series Bushnell that Midway has going on, then I figured WTF? If I'm going to go $610, why not go $750. If my wife's going to beat the chit out of me if she finds out, I might as well really f it up.

Then I got to looking around on Midway, and found Vortex Viper's PST 6-24x50 for $750, so I'm probably going with it instead, even though it looks like it'll be back ordered.

There's too many damn scopes on the market!

Re: Mil/Mil scope decision.

I have the Bushnell 6-24FFP and I really like it! Would I rather have the Vortex PST 6-24? Yep!! But I had a naked rifle and I didn't really want to wait for the PST's to be released so I went ahead with the Bushnell. Once the PST's are out and in stock, I will definitely get one. I hope to be able to keep the Bushnell for a backup at that time but I'll have to see how light my wallet is!

In all honesty though, I suppose it's male genetic disability. I'd rather start off big and work my way down later if I don't like it, which I doubt. I also like the field of view at these magnification levels as well.

Plus there are times when I worry about what my eyes are seeing versus what's actually present, and I just want to be able to make sure. Everyone in my family has glasses, and since I don't yet, I'm always wondering if I'm on the downhill slope towards them, and when I'll have to go get them.
