I have a somewhat old Remington 700 in .30-06 that is a very light rifle. I want to build it into a very light weight hunting rifle that can shoot accurately to 500m when pressed.

I'm still deciding on the optics - still torn between the VX-R Patrol 1.25-4x20 and the SWFA 1-6x24 (the leupold is just sooo light....).

I like the looks of the Rifles Only FTW sling, it seems great for my application. However, that sling won't work with the factory stock because it doesn't have swivel attachment points.

Can anybody recommend me a light weight, somewhat simple and cheap-ish chassis? I have no idea what I'm looking at when it comes to chassis.

Bed your stock action, while you are doing that, put a new sling swivel on it. For scopes on a hunter, I would rather have my money in glass than a chassis system. Look at a 2 x 10 for a 500 yard complimentary glass. The 30-06 is perfect for what your doing with it.

I have a 73 rem bdl in .06 with a nikon buckmaster 4-16x40 bdc. The factory stock I pillar bedded, glass bedded, free floated the barrel. It made a big difference. Here's a pic @ 100yrds.

I may be a bit noob to ask this... What do you mean by bedding the stock action? -edit: just read up on this. It kind of looks like a pain in the ass, and my grandfather may have already done it. I'll look into it though. :)

And I realized maybe I could just get a couple QD adapter plates to add to the wood stock? I can't seem to find any online though :/

Sorry for being unclear. The work I did was too the rifle stock itself. The action is all original and untouched. I got The pillars from Brownells and the bedding compound from local gun shop. Check out YouTube fore video's
