Guys can you help me. We bought a house that was built in 1923. I dont think this is that old, but it is green, not old school camo. I was never in any service, and now at my age I truly regret it.

But back to my question, I have a back pac and it has two pieces like this that goes to a point on both ends, has two ropes and steaks. I am guessing that it is a tent of some sort.

I was thinking about selling these, and have no idea what i should ask for them. They are in great shape and has no holes or rips.

If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

Re: Military back pac

LOL that is called a shelter half!! You need two of them each guy carried a part and you combined them to make one two man tent!!

The pack is a small alice pack without frame.

Not worth much but still a nice find!

Re: Military back pac

You said you have two pieces looks like you have the guide lines. Do you have the wooden poles?

A complete tent should have:

2- Shelter halves
10 tent stakes
2 guide lines
6 poles!!

Re: Military back pac

It was still used in early 90's before we moved to the newer sleep system and dome tents so probably 70's or 80's-95 time frame

Re: Military back pac

What do you think I could ask for this? I know I am missing the poles, But I will never use this. I was hopeing someone would want this.

I also have a old Navy uniform that was left here.

I dont know if that would be something someone would want.

Just trying to clear out to fund a scope for my custom.

Re: Military back pac

Not sure check a local surplus store and see what they are selling them for. They are heavy and bulky and my least favorite piece of gear LOL

Re: Military back pac

If you have kids you could substitue the poles with sticks and give them an "Army" tent to play in.

The small alice pack looks in good shape. They are handy for day hikes. If you strap them to a frame they are even better!

Re: Military back pac

Just found them at a flea market $5 ea. (for all the parts to make 1 tent).I bought 5 so my Cub Scouts could use them. Packing those heavy bastards sure makes them boys sleep soundly!!!
