Its been a raw wet spring in the Northeast.

Ive been wanting a soft shell jacket for outdoor activity somewhat similar to those Condor sells but not a piece of Chinese crap that Condor sells.

Ive been looking at PCU Level 5 coats on Ebay thinking they might be what I seek but I have never seen one in person before.

Today I went to a local milsurp store hoping to look at one than if I liked it Id probably hit up @LAR Dragoon here and see what he can get me from his sources.

Anyway I go in and I see the type of jacket Im looking for and read the tag that its a Beyond Clothing item.

Because its Coyote the store owner has it labled "USMC". everything in Coyote is USMC in this store. Granted its a great surplus store of the old school type - actually about 99 percent surplus not Carhartt gear and bandannas.

Trying to identify if this jacket was ever an issue item...

In the pockets I found a surprise....

The IR patch is a First Spear high speed patch. It was in the left sleeve pocket. Perhaps it indicates the jacket was MARSOC or DEVGRU issue?

Contra indications of USMC use include a Werthers original candy wrapper in one hand warmer pocket (pogey Bait is so Navy) and there was a sandwich bag in the other pocket with indications of having held a peanut butter sandwich....had it been crayon wax or had there been penises drawn on the inside of the coat Id say definitely USMC.

Anyway pretty much brand new condition and at $125 not a bad deal for something Beyond sells on their site for close to $300.

    Hi,

Here is link to all Beyond Clothings NSN's.

    Sincerely,
    Theis

    Thank you Theis.

    Id guess this one....

    8415-01-550-1739 (PCU-CS-5J) Data

but there is no picture to accompany.

The only thing odd is that all the other PCU 5 stuff I see has the hood as integral to the collar and it store away in the collar.

The hood on this jacket is zip on/zip off. Its made of the same weight material as the jacket body rather than a thin "sheet" material that would fold into a mandarin collar.

Beyond is great clothing and for 125$ for that, you did extremely well.

However, I doubt thats part of PCU as a level 5 or as far as PCU goes in general. The material looks to be a thicker padded type of soft shell whereas the PCU lvl 5's are a thinner woven fabric.

I forget what the specifics are, but PCU basically made its layers work together to where instead of being heavier matieral and GoreTex on everything in an attempt to keep water out (which you cant) you instead have water resistant 'one way' material that allows the water that got to you to from cook itself off of you via body heat.

The lvl 5 tops I have are really nice and they could have achieved perfection in putting the crye kneepad inserts in the lvl 5 trousers as I would have worn the entire lvl 5 uniform basically all of the time.

There's a ton of NSNs and ORC, Patagonia, Beyond (probably missing someone) made different versions that may have never been ordered and/or ordered for specific groups and everyone else got the 'regular' one. For example, I still have a lvl5 top made by ORC that has a collar but no hood, is cut differently to be worn under armor, has an IR treatment as well as both of the shoulder pockets have a 1x1 inch square IR panel sewn into them that can be unfolded from inside the pocket and attached via velcro to the shoulder velcro as well as folded back in and stowed.

Yes the body and hood are both a medium weight stretchy fabric with an almost fleece like liner.

A co-worker familiar with the issue PCU level 5 says the exterior of the jacket is similar to his but he was surprised to see the thicker fleece interior and thought the hood should stow in the collar.

Sweet Jacket. Could of used it two weeks ago in my rifle class when the rain was coming down and the temps were in the 40s.

It's the same gay shit TNVC does.

I don't know why and its too gay for me to care as to the reason. I'm sure whatever the reason is; its still fucking retarded.

Buy a non-gay IR flag from AWS Inc and be done with it.

    So IR identifies as gay?

I thought they used GAYDAR to identify each other. You just crushed my perceptions of the gay communities abilities.

I figured for sure Pete ButtJizz was going to be our next POTUS because of his superhuman gay abilities.

Like taking it in the ass gives you super powers.

Im good with plain old Gadsden and Culpepper embroidered flags.

who give a Fuuck if it was "issue"

Just curious as its in a real surplus store with 99 percent of the shit coming from .gov stores.

I went through the mil when our shit was made by "Industries for the blind".

Not shitting on blind people and if my gov is going to spend money there are worse people they could give money to but Im pretty impressed if a $300 windbreaker from a top tier outdoor clothing maker is provided to the troops these days.

Fuck is one "u" by the way unless followed by a certain pronoun according to the Urban Dictionary...
