Where can I purchase two small mini levels for mounting a scope. Not wheelers leveling system, just two mini precision levels. I will use them the same way but dont wont to spend 30 dollars on them. I have looked. Info would be appreciated!!

Re: mini levels for scope alignment

I have a couple or three small plastic levels, just the plastic level itself, not mounted in anything. I made up a couple of jigs to level scopes on my guns. You are welcome th them if they will do you any good. AS I said they are just the liquid container with the bubble in it. If your interested P.M. me your address and I"ll mail them to you.

Re: mini levels for scope alignment

Hardware stores usually have "line levels", little 4" levels that you can hang off a stretched line to get a rough level on bricklaying, etc. They are ok to use for scope leveling, if you level off a flat on the receiver, and then on the scope elevation cap, while the rifle is in a vise with padded jaws. I usually adjust the rifle, so the bubble is just touching one line on the tube, then go for the same line when tightening the scope rings. Use the same level, just clamp the rifle securely.

I agree (both counts).

Same here - I've seen this mentioned before but would love to see a photo or drawing of how it is done.
I've got plenty of different feeler gauges around here but can't visualize this process.

Re: mini levels for scope alignment

Simple, most of our rifles have 20 MOA one piece bases, figure out where you want your scope positioned in the rings, the turret area of the scope on most scopes is flat, use the feeler gauges to on that flat area and the scope base to level the scope, flat base on the rifle, flat base on the scope, feeler gauges take up the gap and level out the scope, torque ring caps to 15 INCH pounds.

Re: mini levels for scope alignment

I use a plastic string level on the scope base to get the rifle plumb. While scope caps are convenient (usually) they may not be all that perfectly parallel to the reticle. Always check against a plumb line after setup.

This little level came in a picture hanging kit, I think it was from walmart. I think the whole kit was $3.00 or so.

Re: mini levels for scope alignment

don't know why folks are still using the knobs on the scope to level the crosshairs.

1. level the rifle first, putting the level on the base. put witness marks in obvious places to make sure the rifle doesn't move while mounting the rings / optic.

2. draw a level line on poster board in front of the rig.

3. mount your rings

4. mount your optic lining up your crosshair to the level line on the poster board.

now the rifle is level, and the crosshairs are calibrated to a level rifle. too many times the the knobs are canted alittle, throwing off the whole purpose.

I was wondering the same thing on this. I leveled the rifle as you mentioned, hit the pod loc nice and tight and kept an eye on the rifle level while adjusting the scope for eye relief, etc. Once I got the scope in its proper positioning and re-checked the rifle for being level, I hung a long piece of free floating 550 cord with a weight on it at about 25yds and used that to align the vertical stadia line. Thought it was much easier than trying to monitor a couple of levels simultaneously.
