Looking for some smith advice. Recently picked up a used Model 70 Classic Stainless in .338WM.
Problem, when chambering a round the bolt doesn’t always roll closed and sticks/won’t close just after starting to cam into battery with a cartridge case in the chamber. Both Norma and Winchester brass tried and Full length resized. Seems like it’s actually galling a spot on the outer OD of the case rim when it has trouble chambering.
Trying to diagnose.
First thing the antibind lug on the bolt is bent is the first thing I noticed, least compared to what I remember and my 6 other model 70’s. Is this an issue? Think it could be straightened?
But the other thing I noticed is this extractor is getting a wear spot on the front top edge of it where it may be rubbing/binding on the extractor cut of the barrel possibly? so looking at all my other m70’s they all have a bevel on the upper edge, swapped the bevel extractor off my 375 to this bolt and the problem seems to go away. Pics of problem bolt and beveled extractor for comparison.
Thinking extractor replacement, but what about the antibind lug? Thoughts?
I did mean to borescope the top of the extractor cut but didn’t have a chance before leaving for 3 weeks for work.
Extractor options....Williams? Factory Classic? Newer SC/Portugal? Is there a difference between the classic and SC?
