ok if i ever have coin in my pocket and see one local
Dakota model 10

But as this design typically allows for OAL of rifle to be approx 4" shorter than a bolt gun of same barrel length

And well they are just bomb proof actions and sooooooo sexy

Which of the more affordable is better
Browning/Win 1895
ruger model 1
EABCO model 97

or any other i may have overlooked

TIA

Re: Modern falling block rifles

I used to have a Browning and a Ruger. The Browning has a free-floated barrel and is more accurate, but cannot be disassembled. The Ruger has a much better scope mount setup, but the trigger is atrocious and the overall quality is poor when compared to the Browning.

I think the best deal in single shots is a bolt gun. Lotsa trigger options, scope mounts, stocks, etc.

I own a Custom Ruger #1 257 AI with a Kepplinger set trigger, Hart, custom stock, and a B-78 Browning 22-250 (all factory). The B-78 has killed tons of groundhogs and the Ruger is one of he most accurate rifles I have ever shot. I agree that they have an allure all their own and an evening with one can offer an experience that you would appreciate. Anthony

If you ever have the coin, skip the Dakota and go straight to Martini & Hagn :

I'm not in love with the Eabco, reminds me too much of the Contender - which I view as being a 1/2 step above the H & R. Never have owned a Browning/winchester, though I would like to. I have one Ruger No.1, my brother has two. His are both standards, one in 22/250, the other in .280. Both will shoot MOA or better with good loads. Mine is the Varmint, in 6mm Remington. Only thing on any of them that is not factory are the scopes. My 6mm has a very nice trigger, clean and crisp. Never measured it's pull weight, but then I never felt the need to. It shoots 3/4 MOA with 95 gr Berger VLD's. At 200yds, that opens to an even MOA. I'm not complaining. Of all my rifles (all factory, no full customs yet), only my 7mm magnum Sendero will equal that.

They are what they are, nice looking rifles, that sometimes shoot well. YMMV.
