Gunsmithing Modifying Grayboe Renegade Forend?

Hello I'm new to the site.
I recently upgraded my Bell & Carlson Light Tactical to a Grayboe Renegade. The grip is greatly improved and my cheek weld is perfect.
The only feature of the Renegade I'm not a fan of is the wide(r), rounded forend. The B&C was narrower and had flat sides. I plan to add flush cups but I would like to take the wide, curved sides down about 1/4" on each side.

Does anybody have some experience with this? Any suggestions in regards to technique or sand paper grit.
Thank for the help.

The material on the Grayboe Stock is a solid fiberglass / epoxy. You can sand it down to narrow the forend and then drill holes for flush cups with no problem. Obviously you will have to repaint. Im about to start a little project with one for a piece I'll be writing up.
