A hunting friend told me this probably 30 years ago. We would go hunting with his dog and every so often the dog would take off. He would leave his jacket where we were parked and the dog would be sleeping on it the next morning when he would go back.

+1 on that. When I was 16 (shit, that's a long time ago) I took my older brothers coon dog out hunting to make some spending cash while he was out of town. Damn thing took off on a deer and I couldn't find him. Went home and my dad told me to grab one of my brothers jackets and to go back and leave the jacket on the ground. Thank god the expensive blue tick was laying there the next morning.
