I’ve seen that once….

Someone help me out. Is this photoshopped or is there a leak that allows oxygen into the line?? I've worked pipeline where people, much more skilled than I, cut and welded natural gas lines but don't understand how this is a thing without some major malfunction

That’s the real deal, I took that pic. It has something to do with electricity going back through the ground…. I think.

Something happened outside on the power pole and caused it is what I was later told.

If you would have loosened off one those flares you would have turned into a fireball

So the feed line is energized and acting like a resistance heating element? No fire inside the tube?

How would the main panel loose it's ground ? Do copper water lines help in this situation??

You are correct about the power coming into the house on the ground and/or neutral side, if you could have seen the water pipes connected to the top of the hot water tank you would have seen them glowing too.

I have seen this also, just not on a hot water tank connected to gas.
