Well since you like to correct people I am going to have to do the same. It was the US Marshall service that was trespassing on Randy Weaver’s property. They shot the dog when the dog alerted on them. Sammy Weaver fired 2 shots in the direction the shots came from and Marshall Degan shot Sammy in the back killing him as he was running away. Kevin Harris shot and killed Marshall Degan with his hunting rifle. Long Horiuchi from the FBI HRT lined up a shot on Vickie Weaver and tried to time his shot to kill both Vickie and Kevin Harris for a 2fer. He killed Vickie but only wounded Kevin. The FBI and Marshall Service both were caught lying and fabricating evidence. Randy Weaver and Kevin Harris were acquitted.

And, the shotguns were purchased by an ATF informant and given to Weaver, then the informant bought them back. For whatever reason that happened, that meant that Weaver "sold" him the guns.
Weaver stated that he cut them to 18", and claims that either the ATF or the informant shortened them further.
IIRC, that length was 1/4" or so short, not inches.
But our gubment would NEVER frame someone like that, so....

The case on the shotgun had already been settled and the US Marshalls were told to stand down and disassemble their observation post on a nearby mountain. They were trying to coerce Randy Weaver into spying on the Aryan Nation and The Order in Hayden Lake. He refused and they kept pushing.

I corrected the marshals thing almost immediately, and I don’t care if someone corrects me and it’s actually correct and not an opinion
