Just put Mine down Monday. Miss her already. Other dog is wandering around the place looking for her.
It is important, for closure, for the other pets to see, smell, etc their loved one dead. Same as humans. I know there are folks who will nay say me but when you watch the "survivors" look for their friend...you will understand. Those naysayers have never been a real friend nor have they included into their family a non-human addition. I feel very sorry for them (for the lack of that relationship) and even more so for those animals that are subjected to such a lack of humanity. Dog is God spelled backwards for a reason. We humans truly are never worthy of the level of loyalty they display daily.

EDIT: I buried my old friend under a twin trunked tree my wife calls "The Love Tree". I won't go into the details but I mourn him regularly. We put solar lights down there because he was never afraid of anything but the dark...a sort funny story there but I wont go on. The point here is that I have a 4 year old bird dog and they were "frenemies". When I go visit my old friend, my newer friend always walks down there with me. He is very obviously sad. He sniffs the grave and wants me to pet him. Your other dogs will mourn their lost friend forever.
