On the subject of neat guns... this motivates me to play Powerball....
HK VP70M The 'original' polymer framed pistol from the late '70s, predating the Glock by something like 12 years. Designed for GSG9. Firing rate: 2200 RPM. If not limited to three-round bursts it would empty its 18 round magazine in about .45 seconds. Stock is also a holster. The burst capability only activates when the stock is attached. Otherwise, it's just a semi-automatic pistol. Triggers on these were very, very hard-pull DAO. But designed for use by trained (ie conditioned trigger fingers) individuals under the stress of assaults. So the heavy pull was not a handicap.
I believe that there are two in the U.S. that are transferrable. And some Dealer Samples. Last dealer sample I saw change hands went for close to $25K No idea where the transferrable ones have gone or what they would change hands for. My guess is the $50 - 100K range. Rarity has its price.

I can't say if the Marines' story is true... but sounds like it probably is!
I CAN say (having ridden all over Norway) that those bacon-wrapped hot-dog thingies... are the best thing ever! Norwegian Gas Station food is unreal good!
Arctic Circle, June 18, 2012.... On my way to Bodo from Trondheim! From Bodo to Tromso, then on to Alta, then to Nordkapp then to Kirkenes... Fun trip. The sun never set! I was at Nordkapp on the Solstice... which was my aim.
And ate a boatload of those bacon-wrapped sausage things along the way!

That's funny. My son just got back from a few weeks of Army training with the Norwegian army in the Trondheim area. I'll ask him about the bacon wrapped dogs. That snowball fight is probably heavy embellished truth, we do have Marines there. My son learned that the locals hate them because they are such DBs. He went to one pub where they asked him right away if they were Marines. He said no, Army so they let them stay.
I lust after your bike. Used to have one; sold it when finances got too tight. Should have tightened my belt, instead.

Yes, it is perfect for my riding, which is always off into faraway places and I want to be able to fix anything with the gear I carry with me.
If you look on the Scout site, you'll see pictures of my trip last fall around EU and over the Alps, etc. Fun time.
Old airhead BMW's with no computers are fantastic touring bikes. Lots of suspension travel. Workhorses. Comfy. And NOTHING kills them!

Once I got good tires (Metzler) on mine, I had no problems dragging the foot pegs up and down the winding pass between home and the office.
Despite all the years I lived in Europe, I never was able to tour it on a bike.
Now that I'm retired, I have the time, but not the finances. Life leaves a bit to be desired at times.

Good tires saved my brothers life. I got a DUI and lost my license so i let him use it cause he lived in the bay area and lane splitting helped his commute. He was up in the mountains and came up to a corner too hot and had to drag his knee for the first time. he's ridden sportbikes before and told me i usually get cheap tires and they all start to slip way before those tires did. had i had the cheap tires on that corner i would have went off the cliff. I run Dunlop Sportmax Q3's now.
