And there it is. The exact moment when we all thought the exact same thing at the exact same time.

We had three Cooper's Hawks hunting in the back yard today.

Beautiful shot!
Juvenile Coopers hawks look alot like sharp shinned hawks, another cool 'backyard' accipiter. They are both hell on pigeons & mourning doves, that's for sure! I've had sharpys stake out my bird feeder in the yard for easy meals...
Hope ya get lucky & get to see one of those young Coopers make a kill!!!

I was working for the Sheriff's Office one day and ran across a couple guys using hawks to rabbit hunt. I got to watch one hit a rabbit. Cool as hell. I talked to them and checked out the Hawks for a good 20-30 minutes. Well worth the time if you ever get the opportunity. I knew had even realized guys hunt with them in my area.

I don't remember what kind of hawks they had but you really can't appreciate them until you see them up close. That's when you realize how sharp those talons really are.

There my favorite Hawk . Have a couple Cooper's that been hunting in my neighborhood for several years . They make the weirdest most unusual cries also .I catch them several times in my back yard tearing apart those Asian Doves or find a pile of Dove feathers when mowing . They just hide/stalk the Doves at my feeders I put out for the little seed birds . They are short wing but FAST and can turn some quick G's in snap-turn flight, diving around the trees and brush . I seen them even go into thorn brush you would never think it would be able to get out of. they are BadAss for there size .
