Makes sense for sure in that application. Around here at sea level most seem to like the NA V8s for farm work. This is a small sample of course in rural MS. Truthfully i'm not a big Ford fan (probably can tell) but even Ford fans i've come across haven't had positives about the 3.5L which surprised me i know most love them. My lack of support comes from our 2010 F250 that has been an absolute lemon at every turn and on top of it rides terrible. From what i understand that engine and model had lots of issues though. I just wish Ford would bring back the V8s in the raptor, and FWIW stop eradicating the 5.0 in the regular class.

CAFE makes our cars get great fuel MPG and makes them disposable due to low weight

batteries have thin layers of lead now... same Cold Cranking Amps- less life due to thin lead

radiators are now AL core and plastic edge- plastic fails with Time, Heat and vibration. So radiators leak, engines overheat and warp

ford switched to AL beds for weight

the V6 in a truck most likely will not last as long as a low compression V8

but Aluminum v6 blocks and AL turbos are lighter than an iron V8
(yes AL takes a ton of electricity to make)



so we are environmently stupid - all car parts make emissions but we only focus on Sticker MPG

I've had a few F150's over the past few years...'10 with the 5.4, '11 with the 3.5 ecoboost, '14 with the 3.5 ecoboost, and now a '17 with the 5.0.

I can't wait to get back into an ecoboost. The 5.0 isn't a bad motor, but it's all top end power. Below 3k rpm's, it's a dog. The ecoboost is instant torque. The previous 3.5's with the 6 speed trans felt quite flat on the top end, but the new 10 speed fixed that 100%. They are beasts from idle all the way through the power band.

Fwiw, my old 2011 f150 ecoboost (crew cab 4x4) with a very mild tune ran a 13.7 @ 96 mph on 33" Toyo Mud terrains, with ambient track temps close to 100 degrees. The 17/18's with the aluminum body and 10 speed are well over 1 second faster.
And I get it, most people don't buy trucks to race. That same truck put 15k miles of the 30k miles I owned it for with a 24x8.5' enclosed trailer full of quads and sxs's behind it, which weighed between 7 and 9k lbs dependant on the load. Never a single hiccup, very rarely downshifted...they pull like diesels. My current 5.0 would scream pulling that trailer, constantly dropping down to 3rd gear for any mild hill, struggled to maintain 70 with the cruise control set.

I'm holding out for the return of the 7.3 Powerstroke. My single biggest automotive mistake was selling my '95 F250 without realizing that the "Superduty" line was going to eliminate the motor and be at least 2-3 times more expensive.

Congrats on a new truck 1J04 . Mine is 10yrs old now and I occasionally want something newer (and bigger) but just can't justify it. As soon as you get the new one you've got to run it hard down a gravel road to get a few chips in the paint, because a shiny new truck is way too stressful until it's broken in.

It hit 60,000 miles on the move back from Chicago, so I'm hoping to get a lot more than 5 more years out of 'er. At least as long as we can keep pulling it back together with ratchet straps and a beater.

I just miss a "big" truck. I'd love to get another 95 Powerstroke, but they cost more now than when I sold mine 15 years ago, the way they've held value is nuts.

I bought a 2015 F350 with the 6.7l in August, I loved my 7.3, but the 2015 is incredible.

Damn, don't tempt me. Momma really wants a big truck. I made the mistake of pointing out the 2017 F350 crew, 4x4, long bed that a buddy of mine got and she was absolutely mesmerized.

I've owned several F150's in the past few years. The two previous trucks had the 3.5 ecoboost and loved them towing my 4600lb bass boat. I now have a 2014 5.0 and it is terrible. When you are used to towing with the ecoboost and it hardly ever revving above 3000rpm, the 5.0 makes too much noise. It is flat up to 3500rpm. My wife has a 2017 5.0 mustang and it is underwhelming below 3500 as well. I was so unimpressed with the company provided 5.0 that I went full retard a bought a 2017 F250 diesel. All I can say is wow! No I don't need it, but it sure is nice on those long drives to fishing tournaments.

the Superduty trucks are light years ahead of the OBS trucks in so many ways. The 7.3 was available until the about November 2003.
there is this one available. And just for reference bidding as at $2000 MORE than I payed for mine new in 2002.

PS mine is a crew cab. that thing is going to go for $8000 + over original sticker

Yep, it's crazy. I sold my '95 for $15k about 15-16yrs ago. I could probably still get somewhere in that price range today with the 7.3, dual tanks, and XLT trim.

I would love to get that in a '17 Chevy or Ford dually but there ain't no truck on the planet worth half the price of the house I'm building.

Exactly, which was my frustration with the Superduty line. It used to be that a solid work truck could be had for a fair price. Once the fancy trucks started I just couldn't ever justify $45-70k for a damn work truck. I'm not a fan of the modern Dodge trucks, but they seem to be the last value in work trucks.

Another BIG peeve with the Superduties is that silly window design that requires custom tint to fit it instead of keeping the vent window of old. I'll admit it looks good, but to me every truck should still have that little vent window which made smoking so damn convenient.

i was never in the know about he penis size of people that own trucks like this.

But, I did get to know several of the “big truck” crew in my circle of Shooting buddies, and the flag it did seem to wave was the “cheating on his wife” flag.

Every one. A lot. It is the redneck guys version of a short skirt and no panties - total unfaithful sluts.
