The reason the Britts don't make computers is that they haven't figured out how to make them leak oil. Boat owner I worked for has the supercharged sport model. He travels so his being in the shop 2 times a month coincides perfectly with his schedule. Make sure you sell it before the warranty is up.
Had two in the 80;'s and 90's both POS
Fell for the sales pitch second time...this time it is much improved...Also local dealer for RR was the snottiest establishment.

Remember the disaster preparedness exercises? Instead of REALLY boarding up windows and locking doors, they would put up signs saying “simulated blocked” or “simulated locked.”

I walked through a door with a piece of paper taped to it which said, “simulated locked.” On the other side was an E-9 who looked like he was old enough to have been a crew chief for the Montgolfier brothers.

He looked at me and asked, well looooootenant, did you read the sign on the door?”

I said yes I did and held up my hand in front of his face with my thumb and first finger pressed together. “Do you see that Chief?”

“What is it?” He asked.

“That’s my simulated key.”

He just shook his head and laughed. I walked away unscathed.

I found out that if you could make an Air Force E-9 laugh you could get away with almost anything.

When I switched to the Army I found out that Army E-9s have had a surgical procedure which removes their funny bones.

I remember an op with the 101st at Fort Campbell. We're in MOPP four and I had to go to the TOC for some reason. Doors are all locked and you can't do facial recognition so there were knock codes. I hit the door once and the person inside lifted the blackout panel, looked at my badge and knocked x times. I replied with the correct number of knocks and he dropped the panel. Waited about 30 seconds and repeated the "exercise." After the third time, I pulled out my radio and called the TOC and asked who is the idiot manning the door. Door opens almost immediately and some fruitcake captain asked, "Who are you calling an idiot?" I replied, whoever doesn't understand how this works. It became rather vocal until a LTC walked over and asked what is the problem. Of course, the captain tells him I called him an idiot. LTC looks at me and I go through the story. He asked the captain what the knock code was. Captain replied X and LTC asked why he didn't grant access. Captain says, "I thought he was guessing." LTC rolled his eyes and walked away.

When we redeployed, he contacted my commander. He turned it over to the 1st Sgt (CMS) who called me and I gave him the whole story. First Shirt contacted the LTC and asked for his input. I never knew about this until a few years later when the 1st Sgt and I were stationed together in Korea. End result was my commander called the captain's commander and basically told him what an idiot the captain was.

No Shit! We gotta get that idiot a stack of National Geographics.
This is all he heard when you said that

2017 Discovery Sport HSE. Aside from the normal dealership BS, it's been pretty reliable, and has done well off road (a rarity in these parts of San Diego to see one of these offroad; the mechanics were all smiles when I took it in, covered in Montana mud).

ETA: My one disappointment is the UV coatings on some of the plastic trim parts suck (and aren't covered under warranty). Already replaced both back pillar covers. Dealer tried to charge me (get this) $420...each, and then I pulled up a LR website in the US selling them for $62 a pop. Fuckers. The badges are toast as well. But mechanically, she's held up well.

I've been looking into buying one here, the older models are holding their value way more than they should. The Defenders as well, but I guess that's because the new model looks like shit.

Yeah, they keep asking me if I'll sell mine back to the dealership for a price break on a new one (or the new Defender here). They're hugely popular here (the Discovery Sports); hell, I bought mine, and within 6 months, two of the neighbors went and bought theirs.

Not sure what I'll do, it's almost paid off, so I kinda like not having a car payment (not that I do anything with the spare cash, except put it in the bank for whenever I decide I want/need a new car).

Some of the 2016 Defender models are going for $80k here, with a bucketload of kms on the clock. I ended up buying the wife a prado instead and will just get a ute now I think. The new discovery is not worth the $$$ here

I think mine sold for $52k (before I lumped in the extended maintenance and warranty). The new Defenders are running around $62k here, if they can be had. Apparently the entire first year's supply was sold before they even got in the country...we haven't had Defenders here in decades, and they (the classics) have a huge following...

That's pretty nuts. i think we had the diesels sell out quick. There are heaps of 110s for cheap here after the army sold most of them off. After remembering how we drove them, I'd probably avoid buying one...

Changed just before I made Senior. Was called Chief a lot.

So I spent a fair amount of time around the Marine Corps… And while I would never disparage another service, it was amazing how often somebody in the Marine Corps couldn’t tell what my rank was when I had three stripes (SRA).

I got called Sergeant all the time…

And the important thing is never to say that you’re a sergeant but also to never correct them. Heh.

Of course being a senior master sergeant a big deal so you might feel the need to correct them but I have some fun.
