When you mount the rings to the base, do you move the front and rear rings forward so the recoil lugs are contacting the rail or do you move the front ring forward and the rear ring to the rear?
Move them all the way forward. The greatest force the rings have to fight in maintaining their position on the base is recoil, which pushes the gun back. "An object at rest tends to stay at rest." If the rings are all the way forward, the base acts as a "shoulder" and the rings are physically incapable "staying at rest" as the gun is pushed back.
