I am in the process of getting ready to send some stuff out for 2 varmint builds. I am going to be using 2 HS stocks for these builds and 1 rifle will be either a 243 or 6xc 8 twist. I will be trying the 105 amax and some custom bullets from berger and ballistic precision in the 90 to 105ish range. The 22cal will also be a 8 twist shooting the 70 to 80 grain bullets. I reload all my ammo but until this point all the rifles i had built on single shot actions and repeater actions for varmint hunting where all done in shooting the lighter bullets. Wanting to go BDL but wanting to know if i am giving up being able to seat the bullets out as far as i will need to verses using a DBM with a AI mag. Also, using the BDL on the other rifles and feeding it they where shorter lighter bullets and never had a issue. Will shooting the longer bullets in the BDL be a problem verses using a AI mag in a DBM. If i have to go the DBM route i am going to go with the PTG 1 that stockys sells. Prefer to use the BDL setup as long as it is not going to be an issue and be reliable for what i will be doing.

Re: BDL & AI mag OAL??

Dan- I think that in most cases, the BDL bottom metal will afford more room for seating the longer bullets where they are needed.
Speaking on the cartridges you've mentioned, I know that they are able to be fed via an AI type mag- I'm using the mags for my .243 with the 115 DTACs( longer than the 105s).
